Miralem Pjanic looks to be his way out of Juventus. Chelsea shouldn’t even consider signing the midfielder.

Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is looking to offload Pjanic as he does not fit into his future plans in Turin. Sarri is interested in a reunion with his former regista Jorginho, who he managed at Chelsea and Napoli. For this reason, Chelsea has become a popular name in the Pjanic market.  However, the Blues should stay as far away from Pjanic as possible.

A move for Pjanic makes absolutely no sense for Frank Lampard and his staff. This is mostly because of his age. The Blues are notorious for not being comfortable extending or making moves for players over 30. Pjanic turned 30 in April and has seen his productivity decrease as a result.

The Bosnian midfielder has picked up more yellow cards this season in Serie A than he has since 2015/16 and has failed to create as many chances. He hasn’t scored five goals in either of the last two seasons, with his assist numbers on the decline as well.

Another reason the Blues should stay far away from Pjanic is because of his position. The 30-year-old plays most of his minutes in the center of the park, playing either central or defensive midfield. Even without Jorginho, Chelsea has plenty of depth at both positions. Hakim Ziyech can play on the right side of midfield, so can Christian Pulisic. N’Golo Kante will be back from injury and happy to slot into defensive midfield once again. Bringing in Pjanic would block the development of some of Chelsea’s younger midfielders, as well, by taking minutes away from them.

Experience is just about the only thing Pjanic brings to the table. He cannot do anything in midfield that an abundance of Chelsea midfielders cannot already do, so why is he being linked to the Blues? The fact that Sarri wants Jorginho and not Pjanic makes for a logical switch for Juventus and a good deal in theory for the Blues. However, when one dissects the rumors, Jorginho for Pjanic makes no sense for Chelsea. Cash for Jorginho is much more valuable, especially in the summer window.

With many teams taking a passive approach to the summer market, the Blues need to sign world class players with the abundance of cash they are being provided. If Chelsea was to deal for someone like Pjanic, the problems the Blues are currently facing would come full circle.
