Davide Zappacosta’s loan spell at Roma has been a disappointing one, but that doesn’t mean the Italian wants to give up. Instead, he wants to fight for a place.

Zappacosta recently spoke on his spell at Roma and how he hopes to stay. It’s no secret his time at Chelsea was rather disappointing. His time at Roma has been no different. His loan stint was derailed by injury early on, but he wishes to stay in Italy to show fans what he is capable of.

At this point, the decision of whether or not to sell Zappacosta should not be a financial fight. Instead, Zappacosta’s future should be decided by finding the best possible move for the Italian’s future. Chelsea owes that to the soon-to-be 28-year-old, as he’s been nothing but classy in Chelsea blue.

Zappacosta is a part of the Antonio Conte transfer group that flopped in London. He’s one of the few disappointing transfers that is on loan away from Chelsea, but is likely to be sold this summer. However, the normal business the Blues conduct should be pushed aside in Zappacosta’s case. The Blues usually like to squeeze every penny from potential buyers—as most clubs do nowadays. But, if a club in Italy comes knocking and asking for Zappacosta’s permanent services, Chelsea should honor his wishes.

Zappacosta is Italian through and through. He’s played in Italy his entire career, with the exception of his time at Chelsea. The right back is nearing 28 years of age and is looking to settle down at this point, rather than moving back-and-forth on loan. Therefore, it makes sense that he wants to remain in Italy at a large club.

There’s no sense in keeping Zappacosta at Chelsea if he isn’t going to play. He took a gamble joining Conte’s Blues. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out and he doesn’t fit much into Frank Lampard’s system. That doesn’t change the fact he’s a skilled defender whose skills can be utilized at a top Italian club.

Zappacosta has been nothing but a top professional at Chelsea. His age combined with his classy attitude have earned him a ticket to join whichever Italian club he wants. Obviously, the Blues cannot accept just any bid, but should consider his wishes when making a decision on his future.
