Chelsea was boring under Maurizio Sarri on and off the pitch apparently. They are no more interesting when transfer rumors are brought in either.

Maurizio Sarri’s time at Chelsea may eventually be looked back on as a third placed finish and a trophy, despite every other team fighting for third collapsing worse than the Blues and easy draws in the Europa League. In the short term, many will still remember Sarri’s Chelsea as boring, languid, and uninspired.

Turns out that was the case off the pitch as well. Gianfranco Zola makes good points about repetition being the key to mastery, but mastering one skill set does not allow for any flexibility. That is why creative players like Eden Hazard and Willian got bored off the pitch and were basically allowed to do their own thing on it.

Then there is the constant chorus linking Chelsea players such as Jorginho and Emerson to Juventus. That chorus echoes Sarri teams being linked almost exclusively with former Sarri players. Just everything about the situation is boring.

Sarri often has a narrative of being a manager that coaches the players he has over bringing in the players that improves the side. Perhaps that is true, but for a man seemingly uninterested in the transfer market and interested in coaching, he sure is linked to a lot of players that he does not have to coach at all. Chelsea saw it with Jorginho and Gonzalo Higuain and the Daniele Rugani rumors remained hot throughout.

Now at Juventus, the same thing is happening. Jorginho is once again linked to following Sarri. Some sources saying desperately so. Jorginho may not be perfect, but this season has shown that Sarri needs him more than he needs Sarri as he has arguably improved under the freedom Frank Lampard provides.

Emerson is next up in the rumor mill. Juventus has at least targeted him before to succeed Alex Sandro, but the whole Sarri situation just makes it seem uninspired and lazy. But that tends to be the stories that stick when it comes to Sarri.

Juventus has won Serie A for nearly a decade now. The man that started it, Antonio Conte, has fallen off out of the race. Lazio is the only side that may be able to push Juventus but overall, the Old Lady is expected to win the league once again. Juventus is one of the best run clubs in the world and they could strengthen this summer with nearly any player they go after.

That is why it is so boring to see them linked to players Sarri has already coached. The Italian needing the right players for his system always seems to come down to the ones he has already worked with. Juventus still has not turned into the entertaining attacking side that Sarri teams are always promised to be either. And it would be hard to believe the training is any more exciting than it was for Chelsea players last season.

It is so hard to get excited about these rumors when everything about them is so uninspired. Chelsea could hold on to Emerson and Jorginho or they could let them go for the right price. But for it to be Juventus under Sarri? Like everything else it feels like a snooze fest.
