Pressure is on Chelsea to decide Dembele’s future in west London
It’s looking less and less likely the Blues will sign Timo Werner, so Chelsea needs to make a serious approach for Moussa Dembele.
Although there have been reports of a financial struggle at Liverpool, the club’s transfer for Timo Werner seems to be in the works. This means Werner is off the table for Chelsea, who now needs to turn its attention elsewhere.
The Blues have flirted with the idea of signing Lyon forward Moussa Dembele since January. It’s now time for them to get serious about an offer as Arsenal and Manchester United are taking a more legitimate look at the Frenchman. Chelsea’s time is running out, so the club needs to decide whether or not it wants to pursue Dembele before another club secures the 23-year-old’s signature.
The Blues are in the market for another forward to compete with and help lighten the load on Tammy Abraham. Dembele offers a long-term solution up top, rather than a player like Edinson Cavani, who would only give the team a year or two of quality football.
Dembele is looking to move on to a bigger club seeing as Lyon is not playing European football next season. Consequently, his price will be lowered as Lyon will struggle to pay the wages of these top tier footballers due to the absence of European competition and the aftermath of COVID-19. Whether or not Chelsea makes a move for the scorer of 22 goals this season is yet to be seen. However, there is rumored interest from Frank Lampard, who wants to make a move this summer.
Lyon has admitted that Dembele will be on the move this summer. At first, Chelsea seemed to be the only club being seriously linked with the forward. Now that Man United and Arsenal have joined in on the fun, Chelsea needs to make a move quickly or risk losing out on its man. If the Blues somehow manage to miss out on Dembele—through disinterest or losing a bidding war with a rival club—Lyon has another man the Blues may be interested in.
Securing transfers for the club’s highest priorities is a must this summer. If Chelsea wants to elevate itself to the top of European football, the Blues need to move swiftly to sign their top targets or rivals will. Do you think Chelsea should go after Dembele?
