Much of the rumor has been about incoming targets for Chelsea this summer, but the Blues should also be gearing up to clean out the loan army.

Chelsea is sitting on a war chest made of a ton of Eden Hazard shaped cash. They also want to make a marquee signing or two this summer, in addition to some other positions being strengthened. To simplify that, Chelsea has a ton of money and wants to spend a ton of money.

While Chelsea does have the cash to burn, that cash can burn off quickly when prices of £70 million are getting thrown around per player. So while it may not be necessary to grow that war chest, there is also no reason not to expand it as much as possible to strengthen even just one player more.

Enter the loan army. Part of the war chest is already made of loan army transfers but the Blues have several more that could yield tidy profits to really bolster the numbers. The club may not get the ideal price they want for that individual player, but overall the cash can still stack up.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is the one who could yield the highest transfer fee but the Blues have struggled to move him on for a bit now. AC Milan and AS Monaco both appreciated his contributions towards their clubs, but not so much to trigger his buy clause. He joined for £40 million and the Blues may have to settle for something close to that or even below it just to move him on.

Mario Pasalic is the next player to consider moving on. After several successful loans, Pasalic still found it impossible to find a place at Chelsea. Atalanta finally gave him consistency in his career and they are interested in making the third season a permanent one. £12.5 million is quite low though, and Chelsea should at least try to raise it to something more reasonable before going through with the deal.

Davide Zappacosta has spent basically the entire season injured but he wants to stay in Italy. That can be arranged, but it will be very hard to find interested buyers given this season has become a ghost one for him. If Chelsea can get anywhere close to what they paid for him, they can count themselves beyond lucky.

Next up is Kenedy who the Blues just cannot find a place for anymore. He has performed almost exclusively as a super sub this season, but it is time for Chelsea to cut their losses on his potential.

Victor Moses is already on loan at Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan and that deal can become permanent quite easily. Of course, Inter do not want to pay the full price for the Nigerian wingback and Chelsea can hold somewhat firm on that. Some club somewhere would be willing to pay for his services, even with his unique skill set being an awkward fit for most clubs.

Finally is Danny “hydrate or die” Drinkwater. To say Drinkwater’s recent time has been a shambles would be to underestimate the full goings on of his career. It has all fallen down around Drinkwater and there is seemingly no club that would pay anywhere close to what Chelsea did or be willing to pay Chelsea wages. The Blues will only come out at a loss on this one, but for both player and club, it is time to move on.

Altogether, these players could yield Chelsea with at least another £60 million to spend and that is probably being somewhat conservative. That could be a whole new starter for the squad if Chelsea goes for the right targets.

But really, there is no reason for Chelsea to continue to kick these players about. Sure, they may go up in value yet but most have peaked or on a down slope as it is. The Blues should cash in while they can and use the cash to improve the squad further this summer.
