The Premier League restarted on Wednesday and despite not playing until Sunday, Chelsea is having a great week thus far as it closes in on a top four spot.

The Premier League restart brought with it a lot of uncertainty around the league; more specifically around Chelsea and where the club will finish. Even though the Blues don’t play until Sunday, the days leading up to the match at Villa Park have brought smiles to supporters’ faces.

Every result has seemingly gone Chelsea’s way since then. Whether it’s rival clubs losing, wonderful club announcements finally being made or top four opposition dropping points, all that’s left to do is beat Aston Villa and Blues fans will have had a perfect week back.

Starting on Wednesday—the first day of the Premier League’s return—Chelsea got a few favorable results. Sheffield United dropped a couple points in the race for a Champions League spot. Although rather unfair, the Blades’ draw at Aston Villa takes a little pressure off the Blues. Further, rivals Arsenal were drubbed by Manchester City, capping off a great first day back.

Despite no football being played on Thursday, the club made a significant announcement. The Blues made the signing of Timo Werner official after weeks of speculation. Werner won’t arrive at Stamford Bridge until July, but his signing signifies the ushering in of a new era at Chelsea. The club is looking to compete for trophies next season as Frank Lampard’s efforts are being rewarded.

The following day, the Blues saw rivals Tottenham and Manchester United play to a 1-1 draw. This is a preferred result in the fact that both clubs leave points on the table. Spurs and United pose two of the biggest threats to Chelsea’s top four hopes and a chance to extend the gap is always welcome. Meanwhile, Leicester only gained one-point in a 1-1 draw with Watford. Leicester failing to score a winner late means the Blues inch closer to securing a Champions League place. Chelsea has some catching up to do to jump the Foxes, but Leicester has been incredibly poor in its last few matches.

Finally, Brighton stunned Arsenal late to ensure the Gunners leave the Amex without a single point. The continuation of Arsenal’s struggled continue to put a smile on the faces of all in west London. The Gunners’ loss means they’re as close to 15th as they are to the Blues, need I say more?

Next. Chelsea stands to be one of the biggest losers from the restart. dark

The final cherry on top of a wonderful week for the Blues would be a massive victory over Aston Villa. With a nearly full squad, Chelsea has a great chance to walk away with three points. However, if there’s one thing Chelsea supporters have learned this season it’s that the Blues are wildly inconsistent. The saving grace is the fact that when the Blues need to win, they do.
