Chelsea’s signing of Timo Werner signals the start of a step in the right direction at Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to compete for trophies.

A signing Chelsea fans never thought would have happened has actually been completed. It’s done, signed, sealed, official. Timo Werner is on the way to Chelsea and it’s Timo time at Stamford Bridge.

Werner is not just another forward to add to the squad sheet, he’s a premier goal scorer in world football. He’s scored 76 goals in 116 starts during his time at Leipzig. Those are “sick” stats, but they mean so much more. He’s going to be on the front line in some capacity for the Blues in 2020-21. Werner was not brought to Chelsea to ride the bench, but rather to make a serious impact and usher in a new era of financial responsibility.

As one of the world’s most sought-after forwards, £48 million is outrageously low. In this depressed market, that’s very reasonable. Absent the pandemic situation, securing such a talent for that price would be considered grand-theft larceny, even though it was his full release clause price. That of itself was, for Chelsea, wondrously low in any circumstance. All of this is amazing considering the outrageous fees the Blues have paid for some mediocre players throughout the last few years. The Werner transfer could signify the start of a new era of not only top transfers, but financial responsibility.

Werner is a world-class goalscorer, not a 10-goal per season player. He’s a 20-25 goal per campaign guy. The best part is, he can work with another top goal scorer in Tammy Abraham with Chelsea, who is also capable of 20-goal seasons.

Werner, Abraham, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and the other wonder-kids on the Chelsea squad—including Billy Gilmour—make up one of the best looking teams heading into next year. The 2020-21 season is looking brighter and brighter. In fact, it could be the most transformative season for Chelsea Football Club in recent memory.

The Blues are close to reaching another stratosphere again, for the first time since the early 2010’s. As Gary Neville famously said during the Chelsea match before the Blues’ unbelievable Champions League win in 2012, “it is written, in the stars.” The Blues can win the EPL in 2021 and that’s largely due to their brilliant financial transactions.
