Chelsea has some of the most talented youth players in European football at its disposal. Therefore, Frank Lampard should reconsider his GIlmour stance.

Billy Gilmour may be young and he may be undersized, but nobody should be allowed to question the ability of Chelsea’s brilliant young midfielder to deliver the goods. The young man has everything it takes to lead Chelsea to glory and as the evergreen phrase states: if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

Frank Lampard chose not to play Gilmour against Aston Villa and the end result was fine, but to exclude him from future matches would be a mistake. Lampard should reconsider his stance on not starting Gilmour down the road.

The Scot earned two Man of the Match awards in the two games he started before the suspension of games. This alone should be enough for Lampard to realize that Gilmour is a unique talent to be utilized to ensure Champions League football in 2020-21. The 19-year-old has the talent and flexibility to play anywhere in the midfield and excel. He showed his versatility and flexibility in the middle of the park against Liverpool and Everton—two tough Premier League sides. No matter where or when he was called upon, he shined.

The challenge Lampard is facing is how to insert Gilmour into the Blues’ first team. Wherever he has an opening, he must slot Gilmour in that midfield position and the Scot will do the rest to ensure a win.

Fans saw N’Golo Kante play in his best position as a holding midfielder in the match against Aston Villa. While it was great to see, it’s now time to insert Gilmour into the lineup alongside the Frenchman and make the midfield a goliath amongst other Premier League sides. It doesn’t take a footballing wizard to see that Gilmour is a sensation—a phenomenon. Chelsea has to realize this and get this great young player onto the pitch. more often No matter where he is stationed, he will excel.

Gilmour should play a vital part in many, if not all, of the Blues’ remaining games in the 2019-20 season. He’s an extraordinary talent and his future with the first team is bright, he’s that good. Gilmour should not be stuck on the bench anymore this season seeing as he is the future of Chelsea Football Club.
