Chelsea score predictions: Blues to finally beat Foxes?
Chelsea takes on Leicester City for a spot in the semifinals. Our contributors seem to think the Blues will have no problem getting there.
Despite the turbulent season, Chelsea travels to Leicester with a spot in the FA Cup semifinals up for grabs. The Blues and Foxes earned draws in both Premier League fixtures this season. One-point separates the two sides in the league, so this is truly anybody’s match. Both managers face the same dilemma: rest players and prioritize a UCL spot or go all-in for silverware?
It’s nearly impossible for many to name a favorite in this tie, but the Pride of London contributors found it relatively easy. Here is our staff’s score predictions for the FA Cup quarterfinal match-up at the King Power Stadium:
Nathaniel Kay: 1-3 Chelsea
Chelsea could grab a double advantage over Leicester with win at the King Power on Sunday. Not only will it propel the Blues into the semifinal, it will have the Foxes peering even more intently over their shoulder as the Blues surge for that third place spot.
After the excellent win over Manchester City midweek, you wouldn’t blame Frank Lampard for sticking with the same side. However, expect a few changes just to keep the squad fresh with West Ham the next league game on Wednesday. Leicester have languished since the restart, so expect Chelsea to take full advantage, especially with the hot form of Christian Pulisic. No clean sheet as the Blues always concede; unfortunately, that’s a given.
Khaled Abdallah: 0-2 Chelsea
Chelsea will be riding high after that huge victory over Manchester City and will use that momentum to overwhelm a Leicester City side that’s been a bit dull since the restart. Expect a few changes with Frank Lampard going for some youthful vigor; starting Reece James, Tammy Abraham and reinserting Jorginho into the line-up. It won’t be easy containing the Leicester attack, but the outcome will simply be a result of which team is in better form. The Blues appear to be peaking at the right time.
Siddharth Bharani-Dharan: 1-3 Chelsea
Chelsea has played really well since the restart got underway. Meanwhile, Leicester City is having a bit of a struggle. The Foxes are dropping easy points and given how the Blues performed in their last match against Manchester City, they will take advantage against Leicester. Retaining Willian and Pedro until the end of the season will prove to be big. The depth at nearly every position for Chelsea is what is going to keep them winning, especially in cup competitions. In order to beat Leicester, the Blues defense has to stay intact, as it was against Man City. Either way, it is likely to see a Blues victory against the Foxes given their current form.
Oliver Smith: 2-3 Chelsea
Buoyed by a solid—if not surprising—victory over Man City, Chelsea will play the Foxes high on confidence. However, just as was on display against City, the Blues’ defence has been found lacking throughout the season, so expect them to concede one from a set piece and another from some bad luck just because. Tammy Abraham should get the nod and a goal. Expect to see Reece James tear up and down the right flank to chip in an assist while Pedro turns back the clock for a curling edge-of-the-box game winner.
Michael DeVito: 1-2 Chelsea
Chelsea is on a roll and the team selection should be interesting. Tammy Abraham should start and be motivated to score. Captain America is the Blues’ most in-form player and he should start as well.
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 0-3 Chelsea
Frank Lampard will likely deploy Billy Gilmour. Chelsea has a lot of depth. The Blues have more than enough players to sufficiently rest key starts for the next Premier League run-in against West Ham. The starters for this match will want to give Lampard selection headache mid-week.
Barrett Rouen: 1-2 Chelsea
Not really a lot to say here other than Chelsea wins 2-1. Tammy to score like the prince that he is.
Varun Dani: 0-2 Chelsea
Two wins on the trot and Chelsea has come back from the break in good form. While rotation is a necessity in this jam packed schedule, the FA Cup represents a plausible opportunity for Frank Lampard to win his first piece of silverware as manager. While the Leicester team hasn’t covered itself in glory recently, the Foxes aren’t pushovers, so expect the Blues to field a strong line-up. Chelsea put in a pragmatic masterclass against City and if Lampard can continue to find a way to balance the beauty and brashness of this squad, the club could well see a successful end to an eventful season.
Abhishek Pancholi: 1-3 Chelsea
Easy win for a youthful Blues side, with Billy G. dominating the midfield and Tammy Abraham netting a brace.
Kevin Peacock: 0-3 Chelsea
Chelsea has come back from the enforced break looking strong. Leicester is faltering and the chase for third in the PL is hotting up. However, this game in the FA Cup gives Frank Lampard’s team their best chance of winning a trophy this season. Having already given Liverpool the league title, Chelsea will want some silverware of its own. The Blues run out winners.
Travis Tyler: 1-2 Chelsea
The Blues build upon a massive win by firing themselves ahead early against Leicester. Then, Jamie Vardy does the Jamie Vardy thing and brings the match level. It will remain that way into extra time before Christian Pulisic begins to make the banner wave and finishes Leicester off just before penalties.
Gabe Henderson: 1-1 (Chelsea wins 4-2 on pen.)
Chelsea and Leicester City have found themselves deadlocked through two ties thus far. The third match will be no different. It’ll take 120 minutes plus penalties to decide the winner of the season series. In the end, it’ll be Frank Lampard’s Blues who charge on and pull within two wins of a trophy.
Nate Hofmann: 1-2 Chelsea
Another 2-1 victory. Why not?
Who takes the field for either side will be a mystery up until the team sheets are released, but Frank Lampard has a deeper well of talent to draw from than Brendan Rodgers. Leicester hasn’t exactly flown out of the gates since the restart, but it would be ridiculous to not treat them like the top four challengers they are. Hopefully this will be the one type of 2-1 we haven’t seen yet, where Chelsea score twice and then concede a consolation goal right at the end. Fingers crossed we see Tammy Abraham’s name on the score sheet at least once.
Tan Yi Hao: 1-1 (Chelsea wins on pen.)
Leicester City may be a struggling outfit following its return to action under Project Restart, but the fact remains that the Foxes remain dangerous going forward and solid at the back. That said, Leicester City will probably give Chelsea’s rotated side a good run for its money with Kepa Arrizabalaga once again the hero come the penalty shootout at the end of 120 minutes.
Ishan Shah: 1-3 Chelsea
This is a game that will show how deep this Chelsea squad is. Expecting changes, but I expect those players to be hungry. I still do not see the Blues keeping a clean sheet, even though Leicester hasn’t had the best restart. This game not only provides Chelsea with an opportunity to get a step closer to winning silverware this season, but also an opportunity to put Leicester under further pressure as the Blues look to overtake the Foxes in third place.
Scott Brant: 1-2 Chelsea
The 1-2 score line is not a safe one. But the Blues are rolling and manage to advance to the next round by netting one very late. Abraham to score a beauty.
