Willian (Right winger): 8
Willian’s brace today means that he becomes the first player in Premier League history to score in every month of a calendar year. An assured penalty and an inch-perfect free-kick were just what Chelsea needed from the Brazilian today. He looked dangerous all game, but sometimes lacked the final pass. However, the importance of his two goals today means that he did enough to avoid any criticism.
Tammy Abraham (Striker): 5.5
There’s one thing you have to admit about Abraham—he always works hard on and off the ball. Performances like this must not be helping his confidence and he will be kicking himself for his poor attempt at a goal-line clearance which led to West Ham’s equalizer just before half-time. He was not good enough in the final third, but neither was the delivery into him. Few Chelsea fans will be convinced that he needs to start ahead of Giroud going forward.
Pulisic (Left winger): 9
The best player on the pitch by far. Very direct, oozing confidence and extremely skillful. A wonderful display yet again from the American who won both the penalty and the free kick that Willian eventually converted. The only reason he does not get a 10 out of 10 is because of his two missed chances, one of which you’d expect a player of his ability to put away. His close control dribbling and ability to get passed defenders is reminiscent of—dare I say—Eden Hazard.
Olivier Giroud (Striker): 7
Giroud looked more threatening than Abraham and instantly linked up well with the midfielders after coming on. His presence up front makes the other Chelsea players around him much better, and he showed today why he must start games against the more defensive teams. Despite missing a good chance, he proved to be more dangerous than Abraham. He was also inches away from being on the end of a wonderful cross from Pulisic.
