4. Transfer rumors never stop: Kai Havertz

Reports linking Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz to Chelsea began immediately after the Timo Werner to Chelsea news broke. What once seemed impossible for the Blues pull off now seems likely in another move that would stun European competition. Bayern Munich is out, Real Madrid is mulling it over and the Blues are maintaining a serious interest.

Havertz would solidify an already potent Chelsea attack for next season. The German international is already viewed as one of the most influential attacking midfielders in the world. Add him to a side with a front three consisting of Werner, Pulisic and Ziyech—it’s like visualizing the Blues flying up the Premier League table already.

While the 21-year-old doesn’t exactly solves the Blues’ problems at the back, he’d be a big addition to the squad. Chelsea’s defensive problems will be addressed, but securing a midfielder who Lampard admires so fondly is another important piece of business. Further, a 6-foot-2 presence in the middle of the park helps the Blues in the height department.

Havertz is unlike any midfielder Chelsea currently has. He’s a tall, nimble attacking threat with a wonderful eye for goal. He’s confident and always seems to move towards the ball. Goal-poaching is an art Lampard has tried to train his midfielders in this season, with Mason Mount and Ross Barkley being the most productive players in that particular skill. Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Billy Gilmour have a hard time finding the back of the net, a problem Havertz would solve.

In 43 appearances this season, the German midfielder totaled 17 goals and nine assists. His 12 league goals would be second on the team while six assists would be joint-top of the list alongside Cesar Azpilicueta.

It goes without saying, Havertz would vastly improve Chelsea and maybe even be the signing to help the club compete for a Premier League title years before many thought it would. Securing Havertz’s signature now seems more realistic than ever. His addition would complete a trifecta of fantastic attacking additions, allowing Lampard and his team to focus all of their attention to the defense for the remainder of the summer.
