Key reasons as to why Kai Havertz makes perfect sense for Chelsea
There are at least three key reasons why Kai Havertz makes perfect sense for Chelsea and they should pay whatever is required to seal the transfer
The rumor mill is rampant with Kai Havertz to Chelsea chatter. Havertz is an addition that would make a lot of sense for the Blues as they continue to remodel their squad in the image of their dynamic new head coach, Frank Lampard. Make no mistake about it, the German could make the whole thing work in the middle of the pitch—it makes perfect sense.
Havertz is unique and has often been referred to as a generational talent. Whenever a club is put in a position to acquire a generational talent for a team, if it aspire to be great, it has to make the move. Not that those transfers are without risk—they all are—but if a club seeks to be great, it has to make great moves for players like Havertz.
There is a large consensus building that Havertz will develop into a superstar. He is young, already terrific, and continuing to improve. The sky is the limit for his talent and subsequent production. In addition, coupling him with several emerging young and mid-career talents like Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi—and possibly Willian—creates a team that can contend for silverware in any and all competitions.
Chelsea has taken massive steps to improve already in this transfer window, adding Havertz would not only be an addition of a super talent, but a clear statement of intent to the entire football world that the Blues are back. If they play their cards right, they may be on their way to being better than ever.
The 21-year-old will also provide a focal point for the team’s entire attack. There is no one in the team now who can play that role as Havertz can. His addition would be the glue to coalesce all the other great attacking talent into a single cohesive force. In addition to his uncanny passing ability, Havertz also scores goals. He is a surefire 10-15 goal scorer each season, if not more. Add that to his role in being the midfield maestro and he’s an invaluable asset.
The German international provides tremendous versatility and can play all over the attack. Injuries and fatigue take their toll on every team, unless great luck follows them through a whole season. Strength in depth is essential if a team is to compete in all major competitions and withstand injuries along the way. This season, Lampard had to use players at times to extreme because of the lack of top-notch depth in the squad. Having a full complement of attackers, including Havertz, would help prepare for such eventualities.
Quite literally, Havertz can play almost anywhere along the front line and midfield and still be an asset to the club. Chelsea can reserve defensive midfield for N’Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour. Other than that, should injury hit any forward position hard, Havertz can slot in nicely and excel. That is a nice arrow to have in your quiver as a gaffer.
Those are three major, key reasons why Havertz makes great sense for Chelsea. Of course, there are other perks to signing the young midfielder, such as his height. He’s six-foot-two, which will aid in attacking and defending set-pieces. Chelsea greatly needs taller players.
The Blues should move quickly, as they did with both Werner and Hakim Ziyech. A difference in £10-15 million pounds will seem like a drop in the proverbial bucket when they have Havertz conducting the attack like Mozart conducting a symphony.
It’s time for Chelsea to be aggressive in order to be great. If the Blues move quickly to make another dramatic statement—adding Havertz—they will never look back on this one.
