Chelsea heads to Anfield to take on champions Liverpool, how do The Pride of London writers think the Blues will perform?

Chelsea controls its own destiny at Anfield on Wednesday. If the Blues win, they secure a top four spot. If not, the Champions League race will come down to the final day of the season between Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester United. Three teams left, two spots remain, one team misses out—let’s just hope that team isn’t Chelsea.

The Blues have a ton of confidence coming off a 3-1 demolition of Man United. Frank Lampard’s squad out-hustled and out-classed the Red Devils en route to securing a spot in the FA Cup final. They now need to build on that confidence against the Champions. Here’s how the Pride of London staff sees the game playing out:

Jake Leach: 2-2 Draw

I reckon the 3-4-3 will be successful against Liverpool. The momentum from the FA Cup will not do any harm either!

Scott Brant: 1-2 Chelsea

The Blues plan to give Liverpool a guard of honor, which is fitting, the Reds won in convincing style. But there is no doubt in my mind that Lampard is thinking Liverpool being reminded they have no reason to play this match is an advantage for Chelsea. The Blues need these points and the Liverpool players want to go home and see their families and start counting down the days ’til the season is over. Olivier Giroud is on fire, and will likely score. I am hoping Christian Pulisic starts and if so, he nets one as well.

Marvellous Adepoju: 2-0 Liverpool

As high-flying as the Blues are at the moment, I still don’t see them winning at Anfield. Coupled with the fact that it’s Liverpool’s last home game of the season, where they will lift the title, I expect the home side to win.

Nathaniel Kay: 2-2 Draw

The Reds really don’t want their crowning ceremony to fall on flat ears. Chelsea really doesn’t want its Champions League charge to fizzle out. So, what fairer way to decide the game than a draw. Lampard will adopted that 3-4-3 formation to good effect, pressing Liverpool at their own game. Blues to go 2-1 up, before a late riot from the Reds finally breaks down the Chelsea rearguard.

Kade Kistner: 2-2 Draw

I predicted Chelsea to lose in the FA Cup semifinal against Manchester United and fortunately, I was dead wrong. Let’s keep a similar theme.

Chelsea has a ton to play for, far more than Liverpool. But I don’t see a quality team led by Klopp just to lay down and concede. The Blues will put up a good fight, they’re in great form and they have played up to big time competition all season, but this one will end in a draw.

Hugo Amaya: 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea will win the game, but not because the team played well; just because Liverpool made some casual mistakes. The Blues will be on the back-foot most of the game with the defense, once again, looking shaky. However, one counter-attack will be enough for them. On the other hand, Liverpool will make sure that we sweat this one out with chances created left and right. The Blues will hold on to dear life and keep the three points.

Giroud with the goal, and maybe a red card for one of our defenders.

Varun Dani: 0-2 Chelsea

3-4-3; three points; Champions League; Kai Havertz. Good day.

Abhishek Pancholi: 1-3 Chelsea

Gotta have a three in the scoreline; it’s in the sponsorship agreement.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 1-2 Chelsea

Liverpool will be very much up for this match; however, it will be second best on the day. The Blues players seem to know just how to stifle Liverpool. I’m counting on that.

Michael DeVito: 0-2 Chelsea

Everything to gain; we handled them before, we’ll do it again. Giroud rules the roost, he starts, Chelsea wins. Pulisic and the Frenchman on the scoresheet.

Gabe Henderson: 1-2 Chelsea

Gut feeling, again. As much as Liverpool doesn’t want to dampen its champions celebration, the Blues will rain on the Reds’ parade. A well-rested Pulisic, in-form Giroud and energetic Willian gives Lampard’s side a huge jolt of confidence. The Blues concede, but bounce back to escape Anfield with a win—something few do nowadays.

Nate Hofmann: 2-1 Liverpool

I’ve been trying desperately to do the math on how the Blues can qualify for the Champions League while picking up zero points in these final two matches. It basically comes down to Manchester United beating Leicester on the final day; which, after the FA Cup semifinal, I have little-to-no faith in.

The Blues needs a win, plain and simple. Unfortunately, Anfield is the worst possible place to produce those final three points. The Reds haven’t looked great since the restart, but they’ll be hyped up for the sure-to-be insufferable trophy presentation that will follow the match. With Chelsea a bit short on rest, Liverpool will be able outlast and eventually overcome the Blues. Bring on Wolves.
