It was a big day for Chelsea as the Blues secured a spot in next season’s Champions League. How did the players perform on an individual scale?

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea is in the Champions League. It just sounds right, doesn’t it? The Blues put any nerves to bed in the final match of the season against Wolves. Lampard’s men put on an excellent performance as they secured a top four position in what proved to be a hectic final week of a wild Premier League season. Wolves went out with a whimper following Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud’s first half goals, but how did the rest of the team stack up as individual players throughout the 90 minutes?

Willy Caballero (Goalkeeper): 8

Caballero came up with a few big saves and ultimately, kept a clean sheet. Many debated as to whether or not the decision to start the 38-year-old was the right one, but in the end, there was no doubt. This is the beginning of the end for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Caballero will surely start from here on out. Chelsea will be looking for replacements in the market. If anybody had money on the Argentine outlasting his goalkeeping counterpart in west London, congratulations, you’ve won what I’m sure will be a massive sum of money.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Centerback): 8

It was another very good day at the office for Azpilicueta. The Chelsea skipper showed up in one of the team’s most important matches this season. He eased any and all tensions at the back with the calm, cool and collected play he is so well known for. While it looked at times that Reece James would overtake him in the line-up next year, the Spaniard made a convincing case for himself starting in September.

Kurt Zouma (Centerback): 8.5

If Frank Lampard had any doubts about who his best centerback was heading into this one, those unsure thoughts are now gone. Zouma was the anchor in a Chelsea’s central defense and has been for the majority of the restart. His aerial presence has masked the Blues’ set piece woes and his inclusion proved to be all the difference down the stretch. If Zouma walks in the coming months, Chelsea is in trouble.

Antonio Rudiger (Centerback): 7

Well Chelsea fans, breathe. The Premier League season has come to an end and the Blues’ defense fumble the team’s top four hopes. Rudiger wasn’t the best today, but he was far from the worst. He had his moments here and there, but in the end, the German did enough to justify a starting role for the remainder of the season.
