Chelsea’s spirits are high following a top four finish and with an FA Cup final looming. The Blues and their fans should be excited about the future.

The FA Cup final is looming and that’s a very big game. Frank Lampard’s no stranger to FA Cup wins and to take one home in his first season as a head coach in the Premier League would be a terrific accomplishment. Expect the Blues to go all-in on this next game, especially considering the Premier League season has concluded.

Due to the looming FA Cup final, the top four finish and some exciting news on the transfer front, Chelsea and its fans should be excited for the future.

There is also good news about a potential breakthrough in the Willian negotiations. He has shown he can still be a devastatingly effective forward for the Blues. As he continues to get up there in years, it’s up to the manager to regulate his game time and minutes in order to get maximum effectiveness from the versatile true professional. With the squad depth that Chelsea seems to be building, that should be easy.

Hakim Ziyech will rule the right wing next season, but Willian will be a super-sub and a superb accompaniment. If the Blues further their interest and sign Said Benrahma, he will also be a cog in the wheel of a Chelsea squad whose bench could beat low-to-medium echelon Premier League teams. Depth is key to compete in all four competitions and Chelsea is assembling those necessary numbers in attack.

The thought of Timo Werner, Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz manning the front line for Chelsea has to put fear in the hearts of even the top PL squads—hello Liverpool and Manchester City. They have enjoyed a talent superiority in recent seasons, but no more. If Havertz is signed, Chelsea can go toe-to-toe with anyone in European football in terms of attacking football.

More needs to be done, however. The Blues need to reinforce the back line. They need an infusion of at least two defenders, which is no revelation. They need a starting left back, Marcos Alonso is fine as a back-up, but no longer a starting caliber player throughout an entire season. Chelsea then needs at least one dominant central defender—a tall, tough, enforcer. Declan Rice, though not super tall, could not only be a solid central defender, but also provide back-up in defensive midfield. Lastly, the Blues need a new keeper. Jan Oblak, Andre Onana, Dean Henderson or whomever Petr Cech and the scouts feel is the right guy for the job.

It’s best for all concerned parties if Chelsea moves on from Kepa Arrizabalaga as things haven’t worked out. The club needs to move on and the keeper needs to get another chance where the pressure of being the most expensive keeper in football history is not a heavy burden for him.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fans can look forward not only to Saturday’s big game against Arsenal, but also to the 2020/21 season. Hopefully, for all fans around the world, this time will be a time free from the awful affliction that has plagued us in the past months. Hopefully, it will be a time of relief, a time of reemergence and a time of renaissance.
