Reece James (No. 24) Right wing-back, England

As much as Lampard will encourage Reece James to foray forward when possible, he will be more than wary of the constant action and movement likely to be happening behind him. Thomas Muller may drift into that area to pose a question to the young full back, not to mention the machine that is Alphonso Davies rampaging down the left flank.

Mateo Kovacic (No. 17) Central midfielder, Croatia

Mateo Kovacic is arguably the most experienced in the Chelsea squad when Champions League nights are concerned, having won the competition on three occasions during his time at Real Madrid. He also has previous with Munich, having defeated them in the semifinals of the 2018 addition. All this prior involvement on the grandest domestic stage, combined with his genuine world class ability, may be crucial if Chelsea are to break down the Bayern back line. A potential match up against Thiago Alcantara would be very easy on the eye.

Ross Barkley (No. 8) Central midfielder, England

With Jorginho suspended, Ruben Loftus-Cheek absent from the FA Cup and N’Golo Kante’s repeated injury concerns, Ross Barkley might have to step up where it matters most in midfield. Since the switch to a 3-4-3, Barkley has been the fall guy whilst Jorginho has been reinstated. There is no better occasion to claim a stake for, not only a future starting rule, but his future as a Chelsea player.

Emerson (No. 33) Left wing-back, Italy

Emerson may be grateful for the absence of Marcos Alonso, allowing him a rare run out, however he could not have picked a more impressive opposition to try dust the rust off. The Italian has made just two appearances since the restart, one of those in the 5-2 defeat to Liverpool. A similar score line would hardly be unusual when Bayern are involved, especially as Emerson will have to adapt quickly to his new role at wing back.
