There has been an endless list of outstanding Chelsea memories since Frank Lampard took over last summer, but what are the five most memorable?

Nothing is ever straightforward when Chelsea are concerned, and this chapter in the history books has been like no other. Frank Lampard returned as the prodigal son to lead the Blues through some truly spectacular moments, for better and for worse.

Epic comebacks, humbling defeats and swashbuckling victories have all been encompassed in a tireless campaign that will be remembered for so many different reasons. It was a difficult decision with so many worthy candidates, but below are a top five of outstanding matches that encapsulated the story of Chelsea’s season.

5. Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Chelsea

Understandably, this bout was all about the disciple facing his old master. Lampard stood opposite Jose Mourinho as opposing managers where they were once fierce compatriots. League titles, cup triumphs and wonderful football would be the legacy the duo left together at Chelsea, but now it was time to turn allegiances to one side.

And the pupil certainly did become the teacher in a lesson of tactical masterclass from the Blues boss. Having lost three of their last four league outings, Lampard knew a result against their city rivals would lift the spirits surrounding Chelsea and inflict serious pain upon Mourinho’s men.

An early demonstration of the 3-4-3 formation that has become a recent favorite of Lampard was set into motion, completely unsettling the Spurs approach as Chelsea dominated from start to finish. Willian was the star of the show, scoring both goals and being an all round menace thanks to his skill and speed that was unrivaled by the Spurs defenders.

The icing on the cake was the clean sheet gratefully accepted by Kepa Arrizabalaga, their first away from home under Lampard, also winning without conceding on the road in the league for the first time since December 2018.

This victory cemented Chelsea’s spot inside the Champions League positions by four points, extending their lead over Spurs by a further six.

Sadly, the brilliant display by the Blues was overshadowed by reports that Antonio Rudiger was subjected to racists remarks which rightly, but upsettingly, took most of the headlines. It stemmed from section of Spurs supporters showing distaste towards the German after he was involved in Son Heung-min’s sending off.
