2. Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-5 Chelsea

This enthralling encounter at Molineux was poignant for so many respective reasons. It demonstrated Chelsea’s conflicting issues at either end of the field, netting five fine goals but also failing to keep a competitive clean sheet since Lampard took over.

Abraham had truly announced himself to those doubting his inclusion in the starting line up as he scored a terrific hat trick that rolled all his qualities into one. His first, an instinctive strikers finish, was followed by a bullet header and then a smart solo goal that left Wolves captain Conor Coady chasing shadows. The only blotch on his otherwise spotless canvas was the goal he accidentally turned into his own net. Excluding the own goal, Abraham had netted seven in his last three fixtures, becoming only the third Premier League player aged 21 or younger to score two or more goals in three consecutive appearances, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Dele Alli.

The most memorable strike of the afternoon, however, went to an unlikely source. Fikayo Tomori, on his second consecutive start, unleashed a speculative shot from 25 yards that sailed past Rui Patricio and into the top corner to arguably ended the Chelsea Goal of the Season award there and then.

Mason Mount grabbed the fifth in equally collected fashion, meaning Chelsea became the first top flight team to have 11 uninterrupted goals scored by players aged 21 or younger, a phrase that would be embedded into the Lampard philosophy. He also earned victory where his predecessor could not, as Maurizio Sarri failed to overcome Wolves in both their league meetings in 2018/19.
