3. Andreas Christensen

Unfortunately, Andreas Christensen falls into this list as well. Make no mistake, he is a good defender and one that has a bright future ahead of him, but that future is not at Chelsea. Under Maurizio Sarri, and even more under Frank Lampard, Christensen was given the chance to show that he is the marquee centerback in Chelsea’s back line for years to come. But he failed at establishing himself in almost every opportunity he got.

Christensen is tactically and technically gifted, but he lacks tremendous physical abilities, which hinders his mental state. This causes him to make silly mistakes that lead to chances for the opposition. At best, he could be a back-up defender for the team during those games that do not matter as much.

The main reason he is on this list is because his age and how that will impact his price tag. By no means does his addition to this list mean that Antonio Rudiger is a better defender, in fact, one could argue that they stand at the almost the same level. But in terms of pricing, any team would pay more for Christensen than it would for Rudiger. Therefore, in order to afford a world class centerback, Chelsea must make the sacrifice of selling the Dane.

The sale of these three players in necessary. The future is now and with next season beginning in about a month, the club needs to ensure Jorginho, Emerson and Christensen do not have a place in the team. Chelsea needs to finish the overhaul of the squad in order to compete for major silverware going forward. Keeping any of these three players will mean less quality in the squad, less money for the club and inevitably, more errors.
