Chelsea’s move for Kai Havertz now becomes imminent as former Blues boss Antonio Conte and his Inter Milan team sends Leverkusen packing.

Chelsea fans, rejoice, the long wait may finally be over. Kai Havertz has been linked with the Blues for what seems like ages now, but the talks may finally become more advanced between Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen after months of speculation.

On Monday, Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan knocked Leverkusen out of the UEFA Europa League in the quarterfinal stage. Leverkusen’s European season has now concluded and concrete talks regarding a transfer of the 21-year-old can now begin to materialize. Havertz has already agreed to personal terms with Chelsea, the only thing left to do is for both sides to agree on a fee.

The wildly entertaining knockout game had spectators in blue on the edge of their seats—despite having little rooting interest—and in the end, they got what they wanted. Leverkusen was sent packing and Havertz put on a show that included a sumptuous goal. Although the German side won’t be thrilled with where it went out, it’ll surely be appreciative of Chelsea understanding its desire to keep Havertz through the end of the competition.

This camaraderie between the two sides will make discussions that much easier and it may result in Leverkusen lower its asking price in order to meet the Blues in the middle. At the end of the day, the move is going to happen—it’s not a question of ‘if’, but rather ‘when’. The German is eager to make the switch to west London as soon as possible. He’ll sign a contract until 2025.

Havertz is likely to be the third signing of the summer for Frank Lampard and his staff. The Blues have already brought in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, but don’t expect them to stop with the midfielder. As players like Willian and Pedro depart, Lampard is looking to replace them with top tier individuals.

The soon-to-be trio of new signings will do just that, but Chelsea also needs reinforcements at the back. The season is now over for a majority of European teams and with the next campaign right around the corner, deals will be made left and right; strap in. For now though, fans are focused on seeing the deal for Havertz get over the line.

Many thanks go out to Conte, Victor Moses, former blue Romelu Lukaku—who scored the winner—and the rest of the Inter Milan team for their roles in accelerating the deal for the young phenom. It won’t be long now until Fabrizio Romano tweets those beautiful words that signify the transfer is on. Here we go Chelsea fans, Havertz will soon be one of us.
