Chelsea score predictions vs. West Brom: Bad day for the Baggies

Chelsea returns to Premier League action with a match against newly promoted West Brom. The Baggies aren’t given much of a chance.

Chelsea is coming off its hot League Cup victory to face West Brom. The newly promoted side has not had the best of starts to its Premier League return and not much is expected of the Baggies in the long run. Here is how The Pride of London staff sees the match going:

Michael DeVito: 0-3 Chelsea

Time to kick up the engine and shift into high gear. The new guys continue to flourish. Willy Caballero keeps a clean sheet. Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell bolster the defense. Solid win by an emerging contender.

Nathaniel Kay: 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea do love this fixture, having won five of the last six with a scoreline of 15-5. It sounds like the result you’d find in rugby, and after Kieran Gibbs antics against Everton, expect a few strong challenges to come in from the hosts.

The Blues won’t mind a bit of rough and tumble with Thiago Silva in the scrum, nor with Kai Havertz now amongst the goals. The German will add to his midweek hattrick with a cool finish, whilst Kurt Zouma will score more congenitally from a corner.

Wilfred Laurence: 1-3 Chelsea

With West Brom reeling and the real Chelsea starting to come to the fore, the Blues should be dispatching the Baggies. Expect Timo Werner to finally (don’t worry, I’m joking) get off the mark, aided by a powered Premier League debut header from Thiago Silva and a bundled in finish from sub Ross Barkley when the game stretches. Genuinely don’t know or care who scores for West Brom.

Barrett Rouen: 0-4 Chelsea

Tammy Abraham to score. Werner to as well. Frank Lampard to make an interesting decision in midfield and everyone to be happy to see Branislav Ivanovic.

Scott Brant: 0-2 Chelsea

Here’s to praying Big Willy Caballero starts this one. Otherwise the clean sheet is pointless to predict if Kepa Arrizabalaga gets the nod. The Blues will look strong and get the job done. West Brom are no pushovers, they won’t threaten to take points, but they will keep the Blues honest. Werner to score and later a centerback to notch one from a corner as well.

Michael Malley: 0-2 Chelsea

Having seen how Chelsea performed against Barnsley midweek, fans can finally breath a sigh of relief. We’ve seen what this team will look like at its best, albeit against fairly weak opposition. Luckily, fairly weak opposition is what the Blues have on Saturday as well. Given Abraham’s performance, I would like to see him start as the no. 9 with Werner on the wing, but who knows how Lampard will approach the Baggies. In any event, the Blues should win comfortably.

Kevin Peacock: 1-3 Chelsea

The Blues performed well against Liverpool up to the point where Andreas Christensen saw red. The mid-week game against Barnsley gave crucial game time to squad players yet to see action so far this season. West Brom sit bottom of the table and this game gives Frank Lampard another opportunity to gel his ideas in what is realistically still preseason. Of course, it isn’t and the result is all important. Fortunately, the club is far enough forward in their development to secure a 3-1 win. Goals from Timo Werner, Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante.

Oliver Smith: 0-3 Chelsea

This should be a walk in the park for the Blues but expect a nervy opening 20 until the possession game and sheer class at disposable undo West Brom. Mason Mount will turn assist extraordinaire providing three quality balls to three different goal scorers. Werner will score, Kante to pop one in and Chilwell will find the back of the net after coming in off the bench.

Nate Hofmann: 0-3 Chelsea

In many ways, the win over Barnsley was the perfect setup for this match. The Blues should be approaching this match with the same type of bloodlust and malicious intent that merited a 6-0 scoreline on Wednesday. While the opposition will be a bit better, Frank Lampard’s starting XI should be as well, with the likes of Timo Werner and N’Golo Kante presumably returning to the squad. Sprinkle in some minutes for Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, and this should be the Blues first statement victory of the Premier League season.

Travis Tyler: 1-4 Chelsea

West Brom has shown they are a team that fades with all but two of their eight conceded goals coming in the second half. Chelsea, meanwhile, tends to wake up for second halves so expect a land slide of goals when the subs start. Of course, Willy Caballero can’t make it too easy on Mendy, so he’ll unfortunately let one slip through late on when the game is supposedly dead.

Gabe Henderson: 0-4 Chelsea

Lampard has almost his full arsenal at his disposal now. Even without Pulisic and Ziyech, the Blues will run all over one of the league’s worst sides. Caballero keeps a clean sheet, as well.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 1-3 Chelsea

Chelsea players would be feeling confident after giving Barnsley a sound beating midweek, but West Brom would pose a different, more difficult challenge. West Brom have very good ball movement and a number of set piece experts. Frank Lampard’s men have to be alert in this match, they should be confident, but not arrogant. Timo Werner is due a premier league goal, so is Kai Havertz. This is never an easy fixture for Chelsea, especially because it’s an away game, even though that shouldn’t matter.

Hugo Amaya: 1-3 Chelsea

A straight forward win for Chelsea. Lampard will take a more controlled approach and have two forwards up top. Chelsea will dominate as West Brom but will concede one goal in a counter attack. Goals from Abraham, Werner, and Mount.

Varun Dani: 0-3 Chelsea

The promising defensive displays in the last two PL games will finally convert into a clean sheet. Werner will get his first official goal for the club to get the show truly on the road.

Abhishek Pancholi: 0-4 Chelsea

The KAIken has been unleashed and it finds poor old West Bromwich Albion in its path. There is only one way this can go, and it’s bad news for the Baggies. The newly promoted side from the West Midlands won’t know what hit ’em, as Kai Havertz will absolutely wreck their defence, and any faint hopes they may be harboring of getting something from this game. A couple of goals and an assist, laid on a platter for Timo Werner to open his account, will be the big stats. But the way Havertz will influence the entire complexion of the game, and the way Chelsea play with him pulling the strings will be of far greater importance. Overall, an easy win for the Blues and a far from “ideal” outing for the hosts.

Tan Yi Hao: 4-0 Chelsea

Simple, Straightforward high-scoring win. Chelsea will simply have too much in the bag for West Brom to handle and the gulf in class will be well reflected in the scoreline come fulltime.
