Right winger: Son Heung-min, Tottenham

Sometimes you just have to get a little weird when condensing two of Europe’s top squads into one combined XI. Son Heung-min is one of the most underrated players in the world. While all the talk in England is centered around wingers like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic (rightfully so), Son hardly gets the praise he deserves. Given the injuries to Pulisic, Ziyech and Bale, Son has to start in this team.

Usually a left winger, the South Korean moves over to the right to make room for the other two world class players joining him up top. He’s played 49 matches on the right during his career, so while this may not be the most effective use of Son’s abilities, it’s not too far-fetched. Overall, the only thing that really matters is finding a way to slot him into the side and this is the best way to do just that.

Striker: Harry Kane, Tottenham

Was there any question as to who was going to start as this team’s No. 9? Harry Kane has a foothold at the top of the list of best strikers in the world—along with players such as Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe. He’s nearing 150 Premier League goals throughout his career and the England captain has played a huge part in turning Spurs around over the better part of the last decade. Kane’s killer instinct and ability to score from anywhere makes him a must for this XI.

Left winger: Timo Werner, Chelsea

Timo Werner, usually a striker, slots out wide for this team. Much like Kane and Son, he’s a player you move mountains for to ensure he’s on the pitch. The German has yet to get off the mark in English football, but he’s played a crucial part in some goals the Blues have scored. Werner’s ability to get into space and his bursts of pace are a nightmare for defenders. He brings something to the table rarely seen nowadays, especially from a striker. However, Kane is a more traditional English No. 9, so Werner slots out wide for the sake of including both.
