Chelsea travels to north London for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, here is how The Pride of London writers think the game will turn out.

Chelsea’s next fixture in the Carabao Cup means a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Frank Lampard takes on Jose Mourinho for the pair’s third meeting in their current colors. It’s set to be a tight affair, regardless of who each team trots out. How does The Pride of London staff see the match going for the Blues?

Varun Dani: 0-2 Chelsea

There were some very uncharacteristic things about the first half against West Brom, particularly with the defence. A back line that was delivering promising performances before the match suddenly panicked and threw the game away. It’s something that can’t—and hopefully won’t—happen again soon and Lampard would’ve grilled that into his team. With Spurs likely to field a weaker team, the Blues will control and eventually win the game.

Scott Brant: 1-2 Chelsea

I have no confidence in this prediction because I have no confidence in which Chelsea team will show up. The sad part is, I am still excited and sure I will be entertained, as opposed to years past. Harry Kane is a goal producing machine, and it may be a squad like the Blues to slow to him down with their counter pace. Tammy Abraham to net one and Timo Werner to get the winner.

Nathaniel Kay: 1-0 Tottenham

Lampard stepped out of Mourinho’s managerial shadow in the previous two meetings, but Mourinho might just of had enough of his former pupil outsmarting the teacher. Chelsea really hasn’t changed out of first gear yet in the league, and although Spurs don’t spark complete fear into opponents, their front line looks a menace. It won’t be pretty from the hosts, but expect them to get over the line with the Blues still searching for that winning formula.

Barrett Rouen: 1-2 Chelsea

Here, here Scott.

Oliver Smith: 0-2 Chelsea

At first, I was wary of predicting a Blues victory after the first half against West Brom at the weekend. It’s evident the team is really lacking the incisive passing of Hakim Ziyech and the directness of Christian Pulisic, even though Callum Hudson-Odoi proved to be a spark at the Hawthorns.

Lampard has done one over on Mourinho not once, but twice, and no one wants to bet against Mourinho when the odds are stacked against him. However, Spurs play Tuesday and then have a Europa League playoff Thursday. With the top four looking as tight as ever, you know Jose—the serial winner—will prioritize the competition that could get him back into the Champions League, so a strong Chelsea side will just outplay a young and weak Tottenham. Goals from Werner and Hudson-Odoi.

Hugo Amaya: 1-2 Chelsea

A very difficult game for Chelsea, but Lampard knows the team needs the win. Surely Lampard is disappointed with the previous performances and will make some changes to try and get now over Mourinho again. With that being said, Chelsea will play a more pragmatic game to try and compromise Spurs. Chelsea will struggle to contain their counter attacks and concede the first goal. However, a comeback in the second half will give the Blues the victory.

Kevin Peacock: 0-1 Chelsea

Lampard is certainly learning about his squad of players and is taking no prisoners as he sorts the good from the bad. In Saturday’s game of two halves, Chelsea at least finished well while Marcos Alonso may just be finished. With games coming thick and fast, consistent results are hard to come by, but this is still effectively preseason. It won’t be easy overcoming Spurs, but they have a Europa League game on Thursday and are likely to rotate heavily. Chelsea wins it thanks to an Olivier Giroud goal.

Tan Yi Hao: 2-1 Chelsea

The only reason why I am backing a win for the away side here is purely down to Mourinho’s claims that Spurs would be fielding a largely weakened team against the Blues. The Blues haven’t been great defensively though and I still see Spurs netting a consolation late on.

Abhishek Pancholi: 0-1 Chelsea

A few nervy moments, but overall a comprehensive victory over the stars of All Or Nothing.

Nate Hofmann: 2-3 Chelsea

Despite saying his side will phone in the League Cup this season, Mourinho’s Spurs will come to play, but his patented mind games will only be enough to make it a tight scoreline. As they’ll want to do, the Blues will probably hand out a couple of absolute gift baskets to someone ridiculous like, I don’t know, Troy Parrott. Chelsea is better and deeper than Tottenham though, and that should be enough for a thoroughly unwanted midweek cup match.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea has already been involved in enough controversies over the past few days. The players and staff probably cannot wait to win their next match so that the media can shut up. Chelsea and Spurs are in difficult situations, both managers have to care without seeming to. Mourinho is missing key players again, it is Chelsea’s opportunity to take advantage of a crippled Spurs side.

The Blues cannot seem to be able to defend like professional footballers, let alone a top Premier League side. For a while, Chelsea fans should not expect clean sheets. Maybe Edouard Mendy will start giving us clean sheets again, who knows?

Gabe Henderson: 1-3 Chelsea

Lampard’s backups are significantly better than whatever Mourinho will field, it’s as simple as that. The Blues will still have some top talents in there, full debuts for Ben Chilwell and Mendy will energize the good to a 3-1 victory. Chelsea coasts on to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.

Mike Malley: 1-2 Chelsea

I’m incredibly superstitious, so I hate predicting Chelsea to win here, but I think the team will get it done. Mourinho and his boys will still be reeling after the draw against Newcastle, so hopefully the Blues can take advantage of Spurs’ low morale and advance to the next round. One player I hope I don’t see on Tottenham’s team sheet: Gareth Bale.

Wilfred Laurence: 1-1 Chelsea on penalties

The outcome no one really wants: more time in the legs. But I fear that’s what we’re facing in this encounter between two sides who can’t really get going. I’m sick of predicting Timo Werner to score and then being bitterly disappointed, so I’ll go for Edouard Mendy cause he might start and he’s a tall fella. Could net the winning penalty, too.

Travis Tyler: 1-1 Chelsea on penalties

Jose Mourinho opts to rotate heavy and park the bus. The Blues create plenty but can’t break through as the finishing still isn’t there. Enter new giant Mendy to lead the team through a shootout on his debut.
