Chelsea returns from break with a match against Southampton. What scoreline are our contributors expecting in this clash ahead of a buys run?

The Blues are returning from international break ahead of a tight run of matches. What do our contributors expect the scoreline to be as things start to kick off in all competitions?

Matthew Hancock-Bruce, Chelsea 2-0

It might sound harsh but Southampton has a pretty one pronged attack and the experience of Thiago Silva should be more than enough to keep Danny Ings quiet. The long awaited league debut of Hakim Ziyech and the return of Christian Pulisic should unlock the undoubted potential of Chelsea’s attack for a comfortable victory.

Jake Brigstock, Chelsea 3-1

I think Chelsea will start well and dominate the ball in the first half, but it’ll be goalless at half-time. I can see the Blues scoring early in the second half and adding a second shortly after. I think Ings will pull one back for Southampton around the 70 minute mark and apply a little bit of pressure, but we’ll add a third to kill it off. Timo Werner to get his first, and Kai Havertz and Mason Mount to bag too.

Varun Dani, Chelsea 3-0

With Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech ready to make impacts off the bench and the German boys slowly finding their, Chelsea will continue to gel as team. The defense will stabilize and the attack will begin to heat up just in time for Seville, Manchester United and Spurs.

Scott Brant, Chelsea 2-1

The Blues featured heavily over the international break, and it can go either way as far as beneficial or detrimental. I expect Chelsea to win, but not in any sort of convincing fashion. I expect Kepa Arrizabalaga to start so the clean sheet may be out the window, I am hoping and praying for a Ziyech appearance. The Blues pull it out late for the three points and continue to play better and better till the team is whole.

Michael Malley, Chelsea 3-1

After Timo Werner and Kai Havertz each scored in Germany’s 3-3 draw with Switzerland on Tuesday, Chelsea fans will be expecting to see fireworks from the Deutschland duo. The Saints have looked good defensively so far this season, and have kept clean sheets in each of their past two matches. But, five of their six goals conceded came against another top six side, Spurs, so the Blues will be hoping to replicate that result.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo, Chelsea 4-1

Chelsea somehow ran out 4-0 winners with an xG of 2.94 and two penalties against Crystal Palace. Getting more penalties would be nice but the blues need to start creating better chances and Ralphampton presents us with that opportunity. The Saints won’t sit back and soak up pressure, they’ll look to press the Blues and try to force them into mistakes. Ziyech may see his debut for Chelsea, and he’ll be key to exploiting any gaps left by the bold Saints.

More from Premier League

Oliver Smith, Chelsea 4-2

There will be goals in this one but expect a cagey opening as the two teams try and feel the other out. Early pressure and a goal from Timo Werner will be nullified by a Danny Ings double that will see the Saints sneaking ahead just before the break. A stern Super Frankie Lampard at halftime will power the Blues to nick a goal back in a hurry before a Hakim Ziyech debut in the last 30 minutes results in two assists for the Moroccan. A second for Werner and Pulisic, Havertz to score.

Barrett Rouen, Chelsea 3-1

This will be an interesting one for Chelsea to deal with by and large. The team still isn’t very well balanced and don’t know each other very well. My instincts tell me Frank Lampard is going to change up the back-line again which frustrates me seeing as they finally kept a clean sheet. Don’t know how it will go between Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero though. Ziyech to make a cameo and Tammy Abraham to score. Blues just have more quality than Southampton even if they’re not going to get out of second gear until after Christmas.

Nate Hofmann, Chelsea 3-1

A number of Chelsea’s attacking options have returned to the club after productive international stints. There was the occasional injury or disastrous mishap from some of the defenders who took the field for their national teams, but by and large it was a net positive couple of weeks for Lampard’s squad. Expect those in-form attackers to keep that good form going, while the defense does just enough to make things comfortable. Of course, Danny Ings will still score.

Michael DeVito, Chelsea 3-0

The Blues new attack is deployed and comes to life.

Abhishek Pancholi, Chelsea 4-0

A rare clean sheet for Kepa Arrizabalaga will be the cherry on top of a rather tasty cake.

Travis Tyler, Chelsea 3-0

Southampton is a side that seems to be very good against teams they should be beating while being far too ambitious against teams they are looking to upset. If Chelsea is looking to play fast in behind, this one should be easy enough provided Danny Ings isn’t allowed to bully the back line at the other end.

Kevin Peacock, 3-0 Chelsea

Signs are that Frank Lampard is moving Chelsea in the right direction as the season progresses. After another pointless international break, the return of domestic competition is welcome and Chelsea embraces its return with a 3-0 win. Goals from Timo Werner, Mount and Jorghino.

Hugo Amaya, 4-0 Chelsea

An outstanding performance all around. Chelsea will have too much firepower and mobility on the ball for Southampton. The Blues will dominate the possession as well as the scoreline the entire game. More importantly, the defense will be airtight, now allowing any counter attacks, nor sloppy clearances. Overall, a great performance from everyone, and a few minutes on the field from those players that need it the most.

Gabe Henderson, 3-0 Chelsea

The Blues will be riding the wave of some successful international appearances and their last performance against Crystal Palace. One of Frank Lampard’s German wunderkinds will find the net, but it’ll be Captain America and the Moroccan Magician who will steal the show, despite the latter coming on as a substitute. Kepa clean sheets even makes an appearance as the Blues coast to three points.

Tan Yi Hao, Chelsea 3-1

Chelsea’s forward line will probably have too much for Southampton to handle, although Kepa Arrizabalaga’s return in goal may just see yet another weak effort squirm through his hands.
