CM, Jorginho, 5

Jorginho did not impress. He completed two long balls, two clearances and one tackle. For a defensive midfielder that is not good enough. To top off a sub-par performance, Jorginho missed from the penalty spot and kept the game hanging in the balance until it was tipped in the favor of the west London side.

CM, Mateo Kovacic, 7.5

Kovacic played well on the night. He was constantly winning fouls and making his usual driving runs in midfield. It cannot be said that Chelsea controlled the midfield, but the Chelsea midfielders did the necessary things to make sure that Chelsea was not on the back foot.

CAM, Kai Havertz, 8.5

Havertz was brilliant. He showed his more creative side and his work rate did not drop. He found himself in the central midfield position often and played like one. He constantly put pressure on the opposition and made two clearances, two tackles and one interception. He also contributed substantially to the offense, making four key passes. His assist to Callum Hudson-Odoi, which was similar to the one he assisted in the West Brom game, topped off a brilliant performance from the German. He did miss an important header that he’d have been expected to convert, but headers are difficult so that’s understandable.
