N’Golo Kante (Defensive midfielder): 8.5

Vintage N’Golo Kante showed up during Chelsea’s drubbing of Burnley. The Frenchman has played quite well ever since coming back from injury, despite a few poor performances. However, he kicked it into high gear in the Blues’ latest match. The switch from the 4-2-3-1 to the 4-3-3 has allowed Kante to thrive in a purely defensive role. He provided excellent cover for the back line and should be praised for a clean sheet as one of the defenders. If Lampard sticks with this formation, the 2020/21 campaign could be Kante’s best since Chelsea’s title winning season under Antonio Conte.

Mason Mount (Central midfielder): 8

Mason Mount has come under a lot of fire from the Twitter brigade recently due to his performance as a makeshift winger. Although he didn’t find himself on the scoresheet against Burnley, he was a standout player in the middle of the park. Per usual, a lot of Mount’s work will not show up on a stat-sheet or on the highlight reels, but that doesn’t take away from his excellent showing. The young Englishman looked comfortable picking up the ball deeper in the midfield and carrying it into the final third, linking up with the forwards.

Many were trying to figure out how to keep Mount on the pitch when the Blues’ front line (Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz) was healthy and all on the pitch. It’s now safe to say that Lampard’s got a plan.

Kai Havertz (Central midfielder): 7

Havertz played really well throughout a majority of this match, much like his midfield counterparts. His chemistry with those in front of him looks stronger with every match and he’s incredibly quick with the ball at his feet. Havertz earns one of the lowest scores amongst outfield players though because of his constant mistakes in front of goal—that is, his side’s goal. The youngster has dribbled his way into trouble a couple of times this season, and the struggles didn’t stop against Sean Dyche’s side. Regardless, still a strong performance from one of the world’s best prospects.

Jorginho (Central midfielder): N/A

Lampard’s switch to the 4-3-3 saw Jorginho rested—for the most part—against Burnley as he came on and made a nine-minute cameo. With the game already at 3-0, the biggest contribution he made was getting Havertz off for a 10-minute period towards full-time.
