Jorginho (Defensive midfielder): 6

Jorginho has come out of the gate firing this season. Many believed he wouldn’t even be in the country come the start of the campaign, but he’s made his presence known throughout it. While he hasn’t done anything groundbreaking, Jorginho’s looked much better in Lampard’s system during the gaffer’s sophomore campaign. All of that being said, today wasn’t the Italian’s day.

Of the midfielders, he was the worst on the pitch and that may be due to the switch in formation in recent weeks. Jorginho played at the base of midfield, commanding the middle of the park with ease, but he lacked his accurate touch. Many of Jorginho’s mid-to-long range passes were not weighted correctly and some even missed the target altogether. Regardless, nothing too severe, but nothing to write home about either.

N’Golo Kante (Central midfielder): 8.5

Is there anything this workhorse cannot do? N’Golo Kante was once again the head honcho in midfield. He was so dominant on the day, he even completed a few passes to himself. If that doesn’t speak volumes about the type of player Kante is, I don’t know what will. He looked so comfortable even though he played a more advanced role than in previous weeks. It just goes to show that when Kante is healthy, the sky is the limit. And to think, there’s Blues fans out there somewhere that want to sell him.

Mason Mount (Central midfielder): 7.5

Mason Mount had a relatively quiet day. He stayed off the scoresheet, so his haters were out in full effect on social media, but don’t let that fool you. Mount played quite well through the match, pressing effectively and getting into dangerous areas. He was one softer touch from likely finishing what would have been an excellent goal; that was the day’s most significant contribution from the creative midfielder.

Mateo Kovacic (Central midfielder): 6

Mateo Kovacic made a 30-minute cameo in the match, coming on in the 63′ to replace Kante. He was apart of a triple sub after the Blues took a commanding 3-0 lead as Lampard wanted to rest some key players ahead of the weekend’s bout with Sheffield United. Kovacic didn’t do anything significant—seeing as Chelsea was comfortable with its three goal lead when he came on—as his job was simply to protect the lead. Kovacic made some solid runs through the middle of the park, but nothing too unusual from the Croatian.
