Right winger, Hakim Ziyech, No. 22, Morocco

Ziyech has adapted to English football beautifully. His elegance on the European stage is something he has always had, but is now more refined at Chelsea. Ziyech has been reputed as a player that loses the ball a lot in a bid to provide killer passes for his teammates. These “sources” did not mention that it worked, as the Moroccan has created the most big chances per season in his last three Eredivisie seasons at Ajax.

However, he has realized that he can impact the play in other ways than risky passes, because sometimes what the game needs is simple ball progression. Controlling the tempo. Ziyech was very effective for Chelsea against Rennes even without being intensely involved in the final third, and even at that he created one big chance and missed one.

Left winger, Timo Werner, No. 11, Germany

Werner has adjusted well at Chelsea. Going five games without a goal and then scoring seven since his first. He dispatched two penalties in his last match and is now the designated taker. His communication with other attackers when he’s on the pitch is almost worth his transfer fee and it is clear Chelsea did good business by triggering his release clause.

Striker, Tammy Abraham, No. 9, England

Abraham’s goal was a striker’s finish in every sense of the word. The positioning and the finishing. Abraham has forced his way into the starting lineup and Lampard is right to make space for him now. He has done well with the opportunities given to him and justified any subsequent starts that will be given.
