Chelsea hosts Sheffield United in the Blues’ last Premier League game before the break, but how will the two teams fare according to the PoL writers?

Chelsea welcomes Sheffield United to town looking for a bit of redemption before the international break. The Blades took four points from the Blues last season, which should anger Frank Lampard and his men. Seeing as the last match between the two was in July, it hasn’t given Chelsea much time to forget the drubbing. Here is how The Pride of London staff sees the match playing out:

Varun Dani: 2-0 Chelsea

Like Frank Lampard said in his presser, don’t go by the table for this one. This is the same team that drubbed the Blues four months back and will punish the team for any slip ups. While Chelsea has been in terrific form as of late, tired legs will play a part after Wednesday’s game. Edouard Mendy and co. will continue their clean sheet streak, while Hakim Ziyech takes care of business up top. But in the end, it won’t be easy or pretty.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 3-0 Chelsea

The Blues did a convincing job of breaking down stubborn Burnley side, nothing to suggest that they cannot do the same against Sheffield, especially if Ziyech starts. The Blades gave the champions a tough game earlier in the season and this will be no different. The Blues have an axe to grind though after taking only one point from six last season. Revenge is a go.

Jake Brigstock: 4-0 Chelsea

I’d expect the Blues to win comfortably against a side that’s really struggled this season, and potentially suffering from second season syndrome. A clean sheet, as well, for a stoic defence. I haven’t seen anything from Sheffield United yet that would suggest Chelsea is likely to concede. Can see Timo Werner getting another couple, Ziyech continuing his great form and someone like Ben Chilwell or Reece James getting on the scoresheet too. Expect lots and lots of possession.

Scott Brant: 2-1 Chelsea

How long can the Blues possibly keep this clean sheet streak going for? I am guessing as long as I keep predicting our opponents will net one. Chelsea has really been flying high as of late; Sheffield—on the other hand—can’t seem to buy a win. Tammy Abraham to net one, and Werner as well.

Barrett Rouen: 2-0 Chelsea

The defence is only going to improve the more time that it get togethers. It will also likely get the return of the ever solid Cesar Azpilicueta at right back. The captain isn’t as gifted in the attacking third as James, but he’s every bit the hard-nosed defender that the Blues are going to need against a hard-fighting Sheffield side. The midfield will likely be even more solid without Havertz, who is still finding his feet and can make poor decisions defensively as he continues to grow into the division. The Tammy-Timo combo will eat and both score with their push and pull, twist and turn combination fed by Ziyech. Callum Hudson-Odoi will also likely prove to be too much. Kurt Zouma to continue being who he has always been and people forgot he was.

Joel Kristian Frederick Burton: 2-0 Chelsea

I’m feeling good about this one. From what I have seen of Sheffield this season, it seems like the Blades are missing Dean Henderson in goal. Aaron Ramsdale looks like a decent keeper, but there doesn’t seem to be a strong relationship between he and the centrebacks in front of him. I think Chelsea’s attacking players will look to exploit that. At the back, if Thiago Silva is able to recover in time, he—along with Zouma and N’Golo Kante—won’t allow players like McGoldrick to have the time and space the Blades enjoyed last time these two teams met.

Abhishek Pancholi: 3-0 Chelsea

In recent years November has been a problematic month for Chelsea. Thankfully, this year is like no other before it. The Blues will continue to dispatch teams without skipping a beat, the Blades of Sheffield proving to be no match for a rearguard marshaled superbly by Silva with Mendy acting as an impenetrable last line of defence. When Lampard’s men go forward, they’ll slice through their opponents, creating chances at will, and converting three of them. Abraham to score and assist, as Ziyech bags a brace.

Mike Malley: 3-1 Chelsea

Chelsea’s clean sheet run has to come to an end at some point, right? Saint Edouard showed against Rennes that even during dominant victories in which he has little to do, he can pop up and make a spectacular save. Havertz’s COVID situation isn’t great, but the Blues have tremendous depth in the midfield. I’d like to see Mateo Kovacic get some big minutes this weekend.

Oliver Smith: 3-1 Chelsea

My recent predictions have suggested the Blues will struggle in games, but in actual fact, they have dominated most of their recent outings. No clean sheet, but it will still be a walk in the park for the Blues. Goals from Werner, Silva and Chilwell taken them on to victory; easy, breezy, beautiful football.

Kevin Peacock: 4-0 Chelsea

In my head, this is a tough game. I suspect the reality may be less so. As Sheffield struggles to overcome second season syndrome, Chelsea is beginning to look like the real deal. Maybe that’s jumping the gun, but Mendy is looking like the cement that bonds the team together. After all, clean sheets win titles. Maybe that really is jumping the gun though. It’s great that the kids were once again the focus of attention against Rennes, which proves the new boys won’t be having things all their own way. A good mixture of youth and experience will see Chelsea win the game 4-0 with goals from Werner (2), Abraham and Mason Mount with the other two.

Michael DeVito: 3-0 Chelsea

The loss of Pulisic hurts, but Chelsea still has the firepower to send in three against Sheffield. Lampard still perplexing in not giving Giroud a start, this should be the game. The same goes for Hudson-Odoi. Time to unleash this nascent star and let him grow. On defense, Silva may sit, but Zouma and Antonio Rudiger with Mendy backstopping will do just fine. 4-3-3 is their best formation, but who can deputize for Havertz? No one really, maybe it’s time for a two striker formation.

Travis Tyler: 3-1 Chelsea

The Blades are pretty awful but they take a surprise lead early. Whereas before, the Blues would have wilted, their newfound confidence now causes them to soar and put the beat down on Sheffield as a consequence of going behind.

Gabe Henderson: 2-0 Chelsea

Another comfortable performance by the Blues will see the unbeaten and clean sheet streaks continue. Lampard’s men will head into the break with a lot of confidence and a hunger to feast on the other side of the national team games. Mount and Zouma to score in the redemption game.

Nate Hofmann: 3-1 Chelsea

Surely Mendy will be beaten at some point, won’t he? Sheffield are certainly not the most likely side to do so, but a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead could see the Blues take their foot off the gas just enough for, say, Rhian Brewster to grab a late consolation prize.

Hugo Amaya: 2-0 Chelsea

A conservative but solid win for Chelsea. Despite controlling the game, the blues won’t have many chances. However, only two mistakes will allow Chelsea to put two goals away. The entire team will have a very solid game with good defending and good movement.

Tan Yi Hao: 3-0 Chelsea

Perhaps if this was the Chelsea of last season, there would have been doubts as to whether or not the team could continue with their excellent run of form considering just how inconsistent we were. But this is a new Chelsea we are seeing and with Sheffield United in an absolutely rotten run of form, there is just no way Chelsea will come away with anything less than a win on Saturday.
