N’Golo Kante (Defensive midfielder): 9

Chelsea’s most beloved player in recent years looks to have found his rhythm again. Kante was integral in Chelsea’s approach against Sheffield as his defensive instincts saved the Blues more than once throughout the game. The Frenchman’s pressing abilities served to suffocate the opposition, as well. Moreover, Kante always had space to receive the ball and create in attack. Whether that was pushing forward by himself or offloading the ball to someone with more space than him, Kante was lively in the middle of the park. He keeps showing he is far from done at Chelsea, and as fans, we can expect more to come.

Mateo Kovacic (Central midfielder): 8

It felt nice to see someone as skilled as Mateo Kovacic with such confidence and composure on the ball in this match. Kovacic may not have been at his best—until now—but he made his presence known. His control of the ball, and therefore, his control of the game was impeccable. Kovacic earned an assist  and was extremely efficient across areas of the pitch. Hopefully his injury isn’t long lasting as he is needed in order for this Chelsea squad to function.

Mason Mount (Central midfielder): 8

Despite not having a flashy performance, Mason Mount covered all the areas needed and assisted the defense, as well as the attack. Frank Lampard had to answer a lot of questions at the beginning of the season, and one of them was Mount’s role. However, it seems that with a 4-3-3 formation, Lampard has found the formula. Against Sheffield, Mount was hard working, diligent and more importantly, his attacking abilities were not wasted. Mount had a couple of opportunities to score and almost took them, but instead elected to dump it off to a teammate. Every game he is showing his importance to this team through his selflessness.

Jorginho (Central midfielder): N/A

Jorginho came on for an injured Kovacic and didn’t have much impact. Despite the Blues scoring twice after he came on in the 71′, he failed to really play a part in either goal. In the end, nothing special from Jorginho, but nothing bad either.
