Chelsea travels up north to take on Carlo Ancelotti’s struggling Everton, here’s the Pride of London staff’s score predictions.
Chelsea is getting extremely lucky this weekend as the Blues’ opponent, Everton, finds itself getting the short end of the stick. The Toffees have a handful of key players out injured and while that’s never good, the team’s bad form makes matters significantly worse. Luckily, recent history is on Everton’s side as Chelsea has struggled in the last decade at Goodison Park. Frank Lampard’s team was on the wrong end of an embarrassment last time up on the blue portion of Merseyside, but the Chelsea legend got the better of Carlo Ancelotti’s men in March.
Here is how The Pride of London staff sees Lampard vs. Ancelotti pt. II playing out:
Wilfred Laurence: 1-2 Chelsea
Very wary of this one, and think I would’ve gone for a slip-up had the starting XI not been handed a rest midweek. Here’s to hoping that added touch of freshness will be enough for victory, with Timo Werner finally getting back on the scoresheet. Away against Ancelotti definitely feels like a ‘prove your title credentials’ game, let’s hope the Blues are up for it.
Tan Yi Hao: 1-3 Chelsea
Everton is incredibly leaky at the back and with the exception of the duo that is Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, the form of majority of the squad has suffered somewhat of a dip since the beginning of the season. That should, in theory, open up the door for a win for the Blues if they can keep it tight at the back while maintaining their proficiency up top. The Blues will get their revenge for an embarrassing defeat at Goodison Park by a similar scoreline last season.
Scott Brant: 1-2 Chelsea
Everton has really struggled over its last six matches. The Blues have been unbeaten for longer than I can remember. Normally that would worry me and scream an Everton upset, but as always, I have to roll with the Blues. Werner is in need of goals, lots and lots of goals. The creation is where Chelsea might lack while missing Ziyech.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 1-2 Chelsea
Chelsea is now very much in a title race, which means that every game is now a must win. They have finally found consistency by dispatching Leeds United, who everyone expected the Blues to struggle against. They may be without Hudson-Odoi and Ziyech, but they have such depth that they’ll still be able to field a strong team that should have more than enough to see off Liverpool’s Merseyside neighbours. Chelsea’s back line is intact, so there’s hope. The Blues’ last trip to this venue did not end well, so Lampard and his boys have an axe to grind.
Michael DeVito: 0-3 Chelsea
Everton is a talented team, that’s why a clean sheet will be tough, but Mendy is up to the task. Is it time for a breakout game for Werner? A brace would be nice. The Blues’ torrid defense will tell. Olivier Giroud starts and Werner on the left.
Nathaniel Kay: 2-2 Draw
Everton’s very short episode on top of the league has been replaced by Chelsea’s very realistic title charge, but this topsy turvy year has plenty more surprises in store. Goodison Park has not been a kind setting for the Blues, winning just four times there in the last decade. Ancelotti will of course want to prove it against his former colleagues and will send the Toffees out with more bite than brittle. Giroud scores again, alongside a collectors item from N’Golo Kante.
Varun Dani: 0-3 Chelsea
Ancelotti’s Toffees have lost their sweet touch, with the club on a downward spiral after starting the league confidently. Lampard’s Blues, on the other hand, are looking to ride through the winter schedule in a manner that befits potential champions. This might be the last time in a while that Chelsea’s first XI play after a week’s rest, so expect the players to press well and be the superior team.
Werner finally regains his goalscoring touch and Giroud continues his red-hot form to ensure Lampard fashionably beats his former mentor—no eyebrow-raises with the result.
Mike Malley: 1-3 Chelsea
Currently on a terrible run of form against relatively easy competition, Everton is stuck in a downward spiral. Chelsea, on the other hand, is unbeaten in the team’s previous 14 matches, and look to be one of the serious contenders to win the Premier League this season. The Blues can’t take the Toffees lightly, with the likes of Calvert’Lewin and Richarlison leading their line. Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma should be able to keep them at bay, though, and even if they can’t, Saint Edouard will be a firm pair of hands between the sticks.
Abhishek Pancholi: 2-3 Chelsea
A tightly contested match will end in favor of the Blues.
Nate Hofmann: 1-2 Chelsea
Remember when people were thinking that Carlo’s crew was set to make a run at the league title? Heady times. The Blues are better than Everton on paper and are playing better than Everton in real life. Not much more to it than that.
Olly Smith: 1-3 Chelsea
Despite constantly underrating Chelsea’s defense and overrating their offense, three Chelsea goals seems believable while conceding just the one against (possibly?) the best Everton side ever feels about right. Everyone is pulling for Werner to be amongst the goals, Mason Mount and a first senior goal for Billy Gilmour—you heard it here first!
Jake Brigstock: 1-3 Chelsea
After a strong start, Everton has dropped off the boil in the past six games, picking up just four points and one win—which was at Fulham. Losses in that period include Newcastle and Leeds, as well. I think they’re good enough to score, can see Calvert-Lewin carrying on his strong start, but we’ll have more than enough to win I’d say. Putting the midweek draw against Krasnodar behind us quickly, we’ll start with most of a starting XI that had the game off. Giroud will carry on his ridiculous goal scoring form, and Werner will get a couple—as long as he has his shooting boots on for this one.
Kevin Peacock: 1-2 Chelsea
Everton is one of those teams that annoyingly seems able to raise its standards when the Toffees come up against Chelsea. Lampard has got his side ticking recently whereas Chelsea legend Ancelotti has seen the Toffees’ form dip since they started the season strongly. On current form, the Blues ought to win, but Ancelotti will be keen to not lose to his former team again. It’s a game that looks to have goals in it, but Chelsea to edge it 2-1 with Mendy back in goal.
Barrett Rouen: 1-2 Chelsea
Zouma to score again.
Gabe Henderson: 0-3 Chelsea
Everton’s injuries are going to see them totally outclassed by the Blues in this one. Lampard’s side has the stronger starting XI with more stars both on the pitch and the bench. Form is also a big factor in this one, as well. 15 unbeaten, anyone?
Travis Tyler: 1-1 Draw
Given Chelsea’s poor record at Goodison, Everton’s injury crisis and Everton’s poor form, I feel like the time has come for the London side to drop points. The Blues have been getting duller in attack in recent weeks and unless some really well rested players choose to stand up and be counted, the Blues struggle against the Blues in a blue draw.
