Chelsea score predictions vs. Man City: Can the Blues earn three points?
Chelsea hosts Manchester City at Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to snap a slump, how does The Pride of London staff seeing that playing out?
The way fans are talking, you’d think Chelsea began its season as poorly as Arsenal. The fact of the matter is, the Blues haven’t, and things will be OK. Slumps and streaks happen, it’s just a part of the ups and downs of a football season. Frank Lampard and his men welcome Pep Guardiola’s squad into Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to earn a statement win over another title contender.
Here’s how The Pride of London staff sees the game playing out:
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 3-1 Chelsea
Chelsea is in a horrible run of form, but the luck has to change at some point. The players and the manager have been called out for this bad funk, so their backs are against the wall. City has the best defense in the league, but the Blues should have more than enough in their locker to unlock the centurions. Nothing suggests that they will beat City, especially because two of their last three losses have come against non big-six opposition. Chelsea has to pick up form again, why not start now?

Varun Dani: 2-1 Chelsea
This fixture is quite famous for a 2-1 scoreline, so in the first game of 20(2-1), there is no reason for this particular match to break the mould. City will be reeling off the COVID scare in its camp, so it’s the perfect time for the Blues to adorn the ‘New Year New Me’ spirit and win for a change. Maybe Timo Werner can finally make a meaningful contribution too.
Scott Brant: 1-1 Draw
The Blues will look the better team, but the match will end in a draw. I know the one time I predict the draw against a top four side, they will manage to win. Tammy Abraham has been fire as of late and that continues with yet another goal. Raheem Sterling to score for City and everyone goes home with a point.
Michael DeVito: 1-3 Manchester City
Sorry, but I just don’t see this misfiring club besting a great City squad right now. The goal is also a shaky prediction for the Blues, maybe if Olivier Giroud starts. I would like to see a 4-1-3-2 in this one, the change may help them get untracked offensively. They are moribund now.
Hugo Amaya: 2-1 Chelsea
This is a long shot, but I believe the team can do it. Chelsea will be on the back foot most of the game and will be the first to concede. However, City will make two too many mistakes that will allow the Blues to take the lead. The rest of the game will be spent defending and hoping for the best.
Mike Malley: 1-2 Manchester City
Man City is the best team the Blues have played since the beginning of their poor run of form. Despite the fact that City currently sits eighth in the table, Guardiola’s squad is very strong, even with a number of high-profile absences because of COVID-19. Hakim Ziyech is healthy enough to play, so hopefully he will create at least one quality scoring opportunity for Chelsea. In the end, though, Guardiola’s tactical acumen will probably make the difference in this match.
Kevin Peacock: 2-0 Chelsea
Chelsea will battle against the tide and not only get some luck, but a win as well. City will astonishingly fail to score and even more unbelievably, Anthony Taylor gives Chelsea a penalty, which Mike Dean confirms on VAR. Abraham smashes it home after pushing Jorginho out of the way before Jorginho himself places the ball in the net from the edge of the box.
Oliver Smith: 1-4 Manchester City
I’ve been predicting Blues victories throughout their winless streak, so naturally if I predict a loss, they will change their tune out of spite. City missing some key players only makes it worse because Kevin De Bruyne will up his game even more than he usually does when he plays his former team. It would be good to see Lampard try a new (that old 4-2-3-1) formation and here’s hoping the sorely missed Ziyech makes his return.
Abhishek Pancholi: 3-2 Chelsea
Time to get back to winning ways.
Barrett Rouen: 2-1 Chelsea
Everyone will be pretty thoroughly rested and also pissed off for this one; meanwhile, City is in COVIDissaray.
Travis Tyler: 3-2 Chelsea
City takes an early two-goal lead, which again forces Lampard into a halftime double sub. This time, however, he changes to two up top and the Blues over run the wrong shade of Blues, leaving Guardiola’s stellar defense (this season) in shambles.
Gabe Henderson: 1-0 Chelsea
At their best, these are two of the best teams in the Premier League, on both sides of the ball. Both Guardiola and Lampard have gone to great lengths to improve their leaky defenses this season, and it’s paid dividends thus far. Unfortunately for both, clean sheets sometimes come at the expense of an elite attack. This will be the case in this match as the Blues narrowly edge out their visitors to earn a massive three points.
