Jorginho, No. 5, Central midfielder, Italy
Jorginho has put in good shifts when he’s played this season. It was surprising to see him not start against Leicester as he was Chelsea’s only available sitting midfielder. Jorginho has flaws to his game that he cannot change, but it does seem like a lot of what he brings to this team is ignored. Jorginho positions himself well in games and this has seen him make a lot of interceptions, crucial interceptions too. Wilfred Ndidi was all over the pitch for Leicester City, Jorginho offers the same thing, though not quite the same quality, but Chelsea could definitely have used Jorginho’s services against Leicester. He likely starts in the cup.
Billy Gilmour, No. 23, Central midfielder, Scotland
Gilmour was partly expected to start against either Leicester or Fulham, but those two teams are incredibly physical, more Fulham than Leicester, so maybe that was why Gilmour didn’t start. It is important to note that Gilmour’s integration into the first team should be managed carefully. You don’t want Gilmour to be thrown into a high stakes game where he’s not ready and it kills his confidence. Gilmour has been doing well in cup and dead rubbers so far, these cup games give Lampard a chance to give minutes to the tiny Scotsman.
Kai Havertz, No. 29, Attacking midfielder, Germany
Havertz did not play well against Leicester, none of the starting attackers did. He needs to get his confidence back up. Lampard is under pressure to get him firing. Starting the young German in the cup did a lot to build his confidence against Morecambe because he scored and assisted. Lampard will hope this game builds his confidence further.
