It’s time to turn the page and enter a new chapter in the history of Chelsea Football Club. The Blues will have a fresh face in the dugout for the first time since 4 July 2019 on Wednesday following the sacking of Frank Lampard. The firing was met with a wave of negativity from supporters as the club’s hierarchy axed their beloved legend. Suffice it to say, Monday was one of the darkest days in Chelsea’s rich history. Regardless, it’s time to wipe the tears and put on a smile to support the new gaffer, Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel has spent the last five weeks out of management after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain on Christmas Eve. The 47-year-old has previously managed the aforementioned, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz throughout his 14-year managerial career. He is widely regarded as a tactical genius who replaced Jurgen Klopp at both Dortmund and Mainz before taking his talents to the Parisian giants. Tuchel has also worked closely with RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann. The German’s connections within the footballing industry, his winning pedigree and tactical reputation have now landed him a job in the English top flight.

Tuchel joins the club during one of the most contentious periods in recent memory. Everything seemed fine and dandy under Lampard until the the rug was pulled out from under the Englishman one day, exposing the growing cracks in the club’s foundation. Many supporters will be quick to write the new manager off because of their love for Lampard, but the man deserves a chance and needs fan support. No matter how you spin it, these last two months have been miserable. The Blues haven’t played well and the tension in the air could be cut with a butter knife. Tuchel’s appointment represents the potential for a better way forward, and that should excite all of those who cheer for the west Londoners.

It’s out with the old and in with the new; Tuchel now holds the keys to the Chelsea castle. What should Blues supporters expect to see under the German though?
