2. Sell/Loan

Fikayo Tomori is not the only academy graduate whose immediate future is out of the club’s hands. The Blues face the prospect of losing Tammy Abraham too if they are unable to find an agreement over a new contract soon. Abraham’s current deal expires in 2023, however, a new one does not seem to be on the horizon. Reports suggest that the English striker is waiting to see if the club brings in another striker before committing his long-term future. Chelsea, in the meantime, continues to be linked with a move for Erling Haaland.

Selling Abraham might not be the wisest idea, considering how well he has done in his two seasons with the first team. He is currently the Blues’ top scorer for the current season, having added 12 goals to his 18 last season. He has also tallied 12 assists during the same time period.

If the contract stalemate continues then the club may not be left with another option but to sell him. He is a good asset at present and can extract a decent transfer fee. However, each passing transfer window will see his value decline, as his contract approaches expiry. A good offer then, coupled with a new arrival, might signal the end of Abraham’s Chelsea career.

While there is still some time for Marina Granovskaia and Co. to deal with Abraham’s contract, there is no such privilege when it comes to Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he could decide to switch to a team that offers him regular playing time.
