2. Hakim Ziyech stepping up when it counts

Chelsea gave supporters plenty to cheer about with their summer business, bringing in the likes of Ziyech, Werner, and Havertz to Stamford Bridge. However, none of the three players has been able to make a big mark in London yet – at least not over a considerable period.

There are signs, however, that that is changing. Havertz and Werner have put in good shifts recently and are finally showing signs of promise. Ziyech, meanwhile, enjoyed a particularly good week as he turned out to be Chelsea’s talisman in two cup competitions!

The Moroccan’s goal against Atletico Madrid midweek doubled the Blues’ lead in their round-of-16 tie on aggregate, effectively sealing their place in the next round. He finished off an incredible move that saw all three of the new attacking signings combine at speed, taking the ball from one box to another, before slotting past Jan Oblak in goal.

Ziyech scored an equally important goal for Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Sheffield United, closing off the tie as the Blades’ looked for an equalizer. The midfielder, substituted in by Tuchel, burst through the middle into the opposition box before controlling a Ben Chilwell cross and finishing smartly past Aaron Ramsdale in goal.

The 28-year-old will have gained some much-needed confidence from his recent displays and will be looking to continue his fine form on the other side of the international break.
