Hakim Ziyech (No. 22) Right attacking midfielder, Morocco

Ziyech didn’t start the game well, but he grew into it, and he was Chelsea’s best chance of creating goals. It was understandable that he was taken off, as Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic had performed better in that game until then. Ziyech has two goals and no assist in the Champions League this season. His goal in the Champions League Round of 16 was the product of a well-worked counter attack. He botched a counter attack against West Brom and he cannot afford to be doing that going forward. He needs to take a few more seconds in possession sometimes. He’s very direct and always looks to execute the most efficient pass as quickly as possible. He was missed against West Brom, that is not to say he shouldn’t have been taken off. His absence was a price to pay for going a man down.

Kai Havertz (No. 29), Left attacking midfielder, Germany

Havertz played 18 minutes in the West Brom match and as was the theme of the day, he did not make any impact in the game. That cannot be held against him though, as Chelsea was an attacker short, and two men cannot do the work of three. He would have another chance to make an impact and Porto should present a perfect opportunity for that.

Timo Werner (No. 11), Center forward, Germany

Werner has split the fanbase again. He missed a big chance against North Macedonia for Germany and Chelsea fans lashed out in anger. He has been unlucky and his confidence needs boosting with goals. He played superbly against West Brom, linking up well and making very good decisions in possession. He was unlucky not to score. The heat on him now will unfortunately continue until he starts scoring regularly again. He was bought to score goals and he hasn’t done enough of that, there’s no hiding from that. He’s contributing everything except goals at the moment, so his goals will come.
