3. If the squad is ready now, then FA Cup is the place to prove it

Frank Lampard said the squad wasn’t ready to compete for silverware yet. Thomas Tuchel said at a club like Chelsea, they have to be ready to win right now. The FA Cup match will go a long ways towards proving who is right.

Chelsea isn’t going to win the title (shocking I know). They are in the Champions League semifinal and are about to play in the FA Cup semifinal. While there is a clear preference between which the club would rather have, there is also a clear indication as to which one is more expected.

The Blues made the FA Cup final last year, falling to Arsenal at the end. When this season started, the FA Cup (and the EFL Cup) was seen as the most likely route to silverware. A year(ish) on and Chelsea is on the verge of making the final stage once again. And, if this team is ready to win now, they’ll do it in the FA Cup.

This is the part of the season where things can be going fantastically but one result ruins the season. One result can also make the season a success and Tuchel has made it no secret that he wants some piece of silverware added to the cabinet for his first few months at the club. He has laid down the marker and it is up to this young side whether they take the challenge on or not.
