Chelsea vs Manchester City combined XI: 4-3-3 with sprinkles
N’Golo Kante (No. 7) Defensive midfielder, France
If the team is going to play a 4-3-3, Kante would be key. He’d give the other central midfielders the platform to be more involved in the attacking areas. His passing would also help, as he would be able to distribute the ball to the forwards, or to more creative midfielders quickly. His reading of the game is one of the best in England and even world football. He’s likely to be fit and if he is, the team would benefit massively from his presence. Few players protect a back four like Kante does.
Kevin De Bruyne (No. 17) Central midfielder, Belgium
Does anything even need to be said about De Bruyne? I mean have you watched him?
Mason Mount (No. 19) Central midfielder, England
This may a little contentious, but Mount gets into this eleven. It’s a pressing team and Mount is quite comfortable leading a press. His ball retention is also very good and his distribution is superb. He seems to be a key player for both his club manager and National Team manager, and that is not something that can be ignored. Whatever it is you think Mount does or doesn’t do, it is equally important to acknowledge that there are things he brings to the table that makes managers keep selecting him. He’s a very good shooter of the ball too, and for a central midfielder that is quite useful. He puts in more than his fair share of defensive work too, which means he’d appeal to many managers regardless of playing style. Some managers want you to track back, some want you to press, some want you to keep the ball, he does it all.
