Chelsea vs Manchester City player ratings: Ticket booked
Hakim Ziyech (Right winger): 8.5/10
Ziyech was a standout performer in the first half and he was rewarded for his efforts later on with the winning goal. The Moroccan Magician was the Blues’ most threatening player throughout the contest. He put the ball into the back of the net early in the match, but it was ruled offside as Timo Werner began his run in the build up a bit early. Ziyech buried his second chance, catching Steffen out on the counter. He could’ve made it 2-0 moments later when he found himself on the end of an NSFW pass from Chilwell, but fired it straight into the American goalkeeper’s legs. Ziyech’s missed chance is the only blemish on an otherwise fantastic day at the office.
Timo Werner (Striker): 6.5/10
Timo Werner was pretty easily the Blues’ worst player on the day. While this statement would be concerning on many days, having your poorest performer register an assist is something to be thrilled about. Werner’s runs weren’t timed well, he was often dispossessed too easily and his outing was similar to that of past performances.
Mason Mount (Left winger): 8/10
Despite being Fernandinho’s literal punching bag on the day, Mount was one of Chelsea’s best players up until his substitution. Per usual, he was making things happen in the middle of the park and putting in a performance far too mature for someone his age. Mount’s inch-perfect pass to Werner opened up the scoring for the Blues in another one for his highlight reel. The runaway favorite for Chelsea’s Player of the Season was removed from the game with 20 minutes to go as he got some much needed rest ahead of a brutal run of fixtures.
Christian Pulisic (Left winger): 7/10
Pulisic came on in the 70′ for Mount. He wasn’t involved much as the Blues found themselves on the back foot. The American slid one by his compatriot for a 2-0 lead before the flag was unfortunately raised. Overall, not bad from Pulisic given Chelsea didn’t see much of the ball in the end. Hopefully the goal—albeit ruled out—is enough to boost his confidence ahead of a crucial period.
Kai Havertz (Striker): N/A
Havertz came on in the 78′ to replace Werner up top. He didn’t have enough time or action to earn a rating.
Emerson (Right winger): N/A
No, this is not a mistake, Emerson replaced Ziyech on the right wing. If not for the pesky flag of the official on the far side, he would’ve registered another important goal contribution from an attacking position.
