Amidst all of the recent news surrounding The Super League, it feels like an odd time to play a football match. Regardless, the Premier League season charges on. Chelsea is set to host Brighton on Tuesday afternoon as it looks to capitalize on dropped points by its fiercest rivals. The Blues saw Liverpool and West Ham both drop points this week, making it entirely possible for them to finish the matchweek inside the top four. Whether or not that’ll matter down the line is yet to be seen, but for now, it’s of the utmost importance.

The Seagulls are not a side to take lightly. Graham Potter’s men have underperformed their expectations thus far this campaign, that does not mean they aren’t a threat though. Brighton can prove to be a pesky side to anybody in the league. We have yet to see how rotation and this Super League nonsense will impact Thomas Tuchel’s squad, so it’s best the Blues give it their all.

Here’s how The Pride of London staff sees this match playing out:

Tan Yi Hao: 2-0 Chelsea

Sorry, what the point of this game again? The Blues win 2-0, maybe, or maybe not? I’m not even sure if all these really matters anymore.

More from Premier League

Michael DeVito: 3-0 Chelsea

The club is flying high. Time to move in some of the subs for this one, but it can’t be taken lightly. The fourth spot is still not there. I’d like to see Olivier Giroud (Tammy Abraham is in exile, anyone know why, really? Could be another Romelu Lukaku situation this summer, ugh) get some minutes. Give Emerson a run out, along with Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Up front, Christian Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi and Giroud. Captain America sparkles in this one.

Scott Brant: 2-0 Chelsea

Will players and manager be distracted by the news? I don’t know, but I am sure Chelsea can net two on a Brighton team that struggles to finish chances. The Blues walk away with three points, and of the two goal scorers for us, neither is Abraham.

Mike Malley: 3-1 Chelsea

Most to this week’s storylines will definitely be taking place off the field, but Chelsea has a massive opportunity in its race for the top four on the pitch. The Blues can jump, at least momentarily, into third place in the EPL table, making this match-up with the Seagulls a must-win. Tuchel will hopefully rotate the squad a little bit, especially heading into an even more important game against West Ham on Saturday, but regardless, Chelsea should have a comfortable victory.

Nate Hofmann: 1-2 Brighton

Who cares? Super League or bust, baby!

Olly Smith: 5-0 Chelsea

No way a potential removal from this year’s Champions League doesn’t impact this game for Chelsea, and Brighton just happened to be the unlucky club that faces an angry Blues squad at the wrong time. Goals galore as Pulisic, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Timo Werner and Thiago Silva thrash the ball into the net in fury. Realistically, I’d love to see Gilmour and Abraham play, but there is more chance Chelsea does actually get yanked from the Champions League at the semifinal stage than Tuchel playing either of those two (despite me trying to speak an Abraham appearance into existence … I won’t stop trying).

Barrett Rouen: 4-1 Chelsea

F**k the Super League. We’ll probably have this one, but I wonder how much the Super League announcement is going to serve as a distraction to the players. How many of the players are going to wonder if—through no fault of their own—they’re going to be excluded from international competitions? There’s a chance that they’ll be distracted and Brighton is not a bad side, like all Premier League sides deserve respect no matter what the wannabe-NFL. Sorry, I misspoke, PFL, owners seem to think, and could make the most out of that. That said, I just honestly don’t bet against Chelsea, even though I am currently looking into Brazilian and Argentine sides to support and even thinking about caring about the Retirement League in the United States too. The Blues will give up a goal. Werner to score twice and maybe even Abraham too.

Varun Dani: 2-0 Disgrace

Football is our escape from real world problems for 90 mins. Our club ruined even that. They’ll of course celebrate it with a win.

Kevin Peacock: 3-0 Chelsea

We’ve seen before that footballers can be very focused when they need to be, this game against Brighton will be no different. The Blues are, despite the West Brom set-back, in good form, Tuchel is pushing his players toward some kind of glory in what may prove to be a last hoorah for the London Blues. Kai Havertz, Marcos Alonso and Jorginho (pen) with the goals.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 2-0 Chelsea

The Blues will have to be focused on the Premier League for now, even though they may not be participating in it next season. They may not even have anything to fight for as they may also be excluded from the Champions League next year. The Blues have already beat Brighton this season, and they should also be more than comfortable this time around.

Abhishek Pancholi: 3-0 Chelsea

Nothing like a game of football to take your mind off things happening off the pitch. That will be the message from Tuchel to his charges as they chase a top four place which could be of no consequence come next season. Still, they need to do a job and a job they shall do.

Gabe Henderson: 3-1 Chelsea

It won’t be comfortable, nor will it be pretty, but damnit the Blues will get it done in the face of adversity. In Tuchel we trust.
