Chelsea trying to get Harry Kane in blue is a no brainer
By Hugo Amaya
If the rumors are to be believed, and Chelsea is looking to sign Harry Kane, the club must do everything in its power to make it happen. The acquisition of such complete striker is a no brainer.
At the moment there are all sorts of rumors circulating around about Chelsea signing a world class striker in the summer. Amongst those rumors is the interesting one of Harry Kane. Surely, this decision by the Chelsea board should be a no brainer. Kane is a fantastic striker that has it all under his belt. Currently, in the Premier League, Kane has 22 goals and 13 assists in 34 matches. Such stats speak for themselves as the capabilities of the striker. Now, put a capable team and manager behind him and you get success for all parties involved.
However, the same rumors suggest that Chelsea is willing to part ways with Tammy Abraham, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and cash in order to bring the English striker to Stamford Bridge. While this may sound like a heavy price to pay, in reality, it isn’t.
First, let’s discuss the possibility of Kane in Chelsea blue. For years, Kane has been the only player keeping Spurs relevant. His ability to score all types of goals is one of the best in the game. He also creates chances with his movement and positioning; and he assists when he can’t score.
By now, at the prime of his career, he is feeling hard done by not having a single trophy to be proud of. Therefore, coming to Chelsea a successful, and rival club, will be all the motivation he’d need to take his game to the next level and continue to prove that Chelsea is a winning team.
Second, his price tag; Chelsea wants to offload Arrizabalaga and Abraham, plus cash, in order to acquire Kane’s services. The former is the least worrisome as Arrizabalaga has shown he is not the keeper everyone thought he was. Under Frank Lampard, his performances were nothing short of mediocre and cost Chelsea points almost every match. Therefore, by cutting the loss short, and giving a such a player to a mediocre team like Spurs, sounds like a match made in heaven.
But, the latter, is a bitter pill to swallow. Tammy Abraham has the potential to be a world class striker. Under Frank Lampard, he showed he can be a reliable goal scorer and the future of the front line for the club. However, Thomas Tuchel doesn’t seem to think so.
As a result, Tammy has hardly made it to the bench since the German coach took charge, and his minutes on the pitch can almost be counted with both hands. Therefore, using Abraham as part of the deal makes all the sense in the world.
Nevertheless, the thought of Abraham in a Spurs shirt is heart breaking. Abraham is one of the players that made it through the ranks. More importantly, he proved himself and, therefore, the emotional connection is present. So even thinking about him joining a rival, and Spurs of all teams, is disappointing.
But, putting things on a scale, these are sacrifices worth taking. As much as I’d like to see Chelsea receive full price for Arrizabalaga; and for Tammy to succeed at the club, neither of those things will happen. So, instead of continue wishful and emotional thinking, Chelsea should move forward with the deal and sign Harry Kane. Because after a couple of Premier League and Champions League titles with Kane as a striker, it will all be forgotten and forgiven.
