Chelsea: Antonio Conte to Tottenham could be bad news for Blues
By Hugo Amaya
Recent rumors suggest that former Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, could be on his way to Spurs. While most Spurs news is irrelevant to the Blues, this one in particular could be bad news.
After winning the Champions League, Chelsea looks unstoppable in every front. Not just on the pitch, but in the coming transfer market as well. Currently, and without a doubt, the Blues are the best team in Europe. The strength, depth, and unity the squad possesses are the attributes that made the team a cut above the rest.
With such power in their hands, Chelsea now has the ability to point at any transfer target and make a move. This applies particularly to strikers as the Blues are in desperate need of one. Amongst the names in the shortlist are Romelu Lukaku, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane.
However, with Antonio Conte rumored to become the next Spurs managers, things will get complicated for Chelsea. The first call for concern in Harry Kane (and let’s be honest, this was very unlikely to happen). There was hope as long as Spurs remained “Spurs” and Chelsea remained the Pride of London, but Antonio Conte is a winner and Kane needs to retire with a winner’s medal.
Although the term “winning” for Spurs is alien, Conte may be the one man who can get them any glory. At Chelsea, Conte completely changed the team, its mentality, and its path. In that same regard, Kane will hope that Conte will do the same with Spurs. This will be the one and only incentive for the English striker to remain in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Thereby, killing all hope for the Blues to acquire Kane’s coveted services.
If this is the case, it will be a blow for Chelsea’s transfer plans. Kane is an incredible striker and any team (especially Spurs) will be lucky to have him. His talents are all Chelsea needs to compete in every front next season. It would be a shame to see him waste his talents another season with a club that won’t achieve anything.
The least worrisome is Lukaku. This argument is only based on the striker’s relationship with the Italian Manager. Lukaku had a fantastic season under Conte with 24 goals and 11 assists in 36 games. By any account, these are unreal numbers that any club needs. Knowing Conte’s ambitious mentality, he will try to bring Lukaku to Spurs.
However, that is unlikely to happen as Spurs do not have much to offer in terms of competitiveness. Nevertheless, Lukaku once made the wrong decision to turn down Chelsea for and opposing team, and it cannot be overlooked he may do it again.
With all that being said, Conte at Spurs is bad news for Chelsea. Therefore, if Chelsea wants to bring either striker to Stamford Bridge, they must act quickly and convince one of them sign in blue.
