Chelsea returns Leicester’s “generosity”

Generosity is a favourable term considering how much money the Foxes made on the sales of Ben Chilwell, Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante to Chelsea. However, the Blues would not be where they are without Kante, and Chilwell has finally given them stability they haven’t had since Ashley Cole. The less said about Drinkwater the better.

This match-up has developed into a genuine rivalry in the last few years and Leicester is a serious top four contender. Selling Abraham to a direct rival is hardly desirable, but here is why it works. Firstly, Chelsea will get a handsome fee from a team desperate to not slip at the final hurdle once again. Secondly, Jamie Vardy is 34. The Foxes need to plan for the future and Abraham is the perfect fit to follow in Vardy’s footsteps and they’ll pay for that. He will connect well with the playmaking of James Maddison, and thrive off of Leicester’s love of crossing and counter attacks.

Finally, this is the best move for Abraham if he wants to develop and rub in Chelsea’s face what it sold because of Brendan Rodgers. A former Chelsea youth manager, Rodgers is known for his ability to coax the best out of young talent. He also loves the option of playing two up front and a combination of Abraham and Kelechi Iheanacho is young, quick and has massive potential.

The Blues have a whole host of options if they wish to sell Abraham. It would be a crying shame to see someone with such obvious talent being shipped off once again, but it is par the course for how this club operates. Unfortunately for Abraham, that style of business in the dugout and the dressing room has paid dividends, so it likely won’t end any time soon. From the looks of it, neither will his spell on the bench. With Tuchel being extended at Chelsea, and now Olivier Giroud as well, Abraham’s future becomes even murkier.
