A transfer raid on those playing for the Danish National Team could pay golden dividends for Chelsea heading into next season. After facing a tragedy during Christian Eriksen’s collapse in the country’s first Euro 2020 game, Denmark has gone on a cinderella run and made it to the quarterfinals of the competition. De rod-hvide thrashed Wales 4-0 in their latest match and looked quite impressive in the process.

Throughout this run, several players have caught the attention of club fans throughout Europe. While the Euros are always a showcase for talent, viewing the Danes presents some potentially excellent opportunities for the Blues to add solid performers to their squad without breaking the bank. Of course, that is predicated on the fact that Chelsea chooses to revert to its pre-2020 transfer strategy and forgoes adding megastars due to cost considerations. Yet, should the Blues decide to acquire back-up players, who would be solid squad players—if not starters—at a reasonable cost, the Danish team offers interesting players.

One who won’t be available is the outstanding midfielder from Spurs, Pierre-Emile Hoibjerg. He was a top signing by then-manager Jose Mourinho and he isn’t going anywhere, especially not to Chelsea given the fractured relationship with Tottenham. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at two players who may be available at the right price who could add to Chelsea’s squad depth:

Chelsea should not have to look any further than the Danish National Team for new players this summer.

Starting us off is Joakim Maehle, a fullback from Atalanta. Maehle has looked solid and could be a possible addition in light of Chelsea’s missing out on Achraf Hakimi. The 24-year-old could step into a supporting role on the right side—along with Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta—to add depth to those positions. Maehle’s value currently sits at a moderate £10.3 million. Expanding on that thought, Chelsea has had a great relationship with Atalanta in recent years. The two sides did business in the deal that saw Mario Pasalic move to Serie A. Back to Maehle though. The Dane scored in the big win against Wales with an impressive strike and that shows something the Blues are missing on the right.

Another player who stands out is striker Kasper Dolberg, who notched a brace against Wales. The 23-year-old has a Transfermarkt value of £15.85 million, again, relatively inexpensive. Dolberg would be a nice back-up option should Chelsea continue on with its plan to sell Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud this summer.

Those are just two of players who Chelsea may want to consider if the Blues decide to offload a host of squad players during the offseason. Ideally, they should stay aggressive and continue to build on the core that won them the Champions League just one month ago.
