Another eventful week has gone by for Chelsea in the transfer window. The fans are still hoping to get Erling Haaland, but another week has vanished with the only update being “Chelsea has to make a crazy bid otherwise Borussia Dortmund will not sell”. Basically, the same thing which was said since the start of the window. But don’t you worry, here is the second installment of my weekly article of transfer roundup regarding the Blues.
The lack of incoming is still frustrating the Blues fans all over but the departure of a highly rated Chelsea academy graduate certainly gives an idea that work is in full flow behind-the-scenes when it comes to buying players for this season. With an ideal start to pre-season friendlies in which Chelsea thrashed Peterborough United 6-1, hopefully, the fans have something to look forward to.
The transfer rumor mill has been active and quite a few rumors are coming which I would say that you have to look forward to. Here are some of the transfer rumors from the past week which can very well be the completed deals soon.
1. Marc Guehi completes his move to Crystal Palace
The highly-rated Chelsea academy graduate Marc Guehi has completed his permanent move to the South London club, Crystal Palace. This news comes as a shock to all the fans as all summer they had heard no rumours about Marc Guehi and all of a sudden this news emerged. The news was first broken by David Ornstein of The Athletic on this Twitter handle. Least to say that this news didn’t go down well with the Blues fan base.
I, personally, was very disappointed with his news because just like every other fan I expected Guehi to break into the club’s first team after his impressive loan spell at Swansea City in the Championship.
But one thing to keep in mind is this deal is not at all a bad deal for Chelsea. Moreover, this deal can turn out to be a masterstroke from the board. As mentioned in the tweet, whenever Crystal Palace decides to sell Marc Guehi Chelsea will definitely get a chunk of the transfer fee. And the club has the first right to match any bid accepted by the South London club. So if the English defender turns out to be an amazing player everyone expects him to be then Chelsea has the first right to buy him back. The sudden announcement of this deal does confirm one thing though. All the work is being done behind the scenes and in full secrecy, hence why lack of reliable transfer rumours. Any deals will only be announced if the deals will get completed 100%. Nothing more, nothing less.
