3. The youth exodus continues with four departures

As we were all familiar with the situation of the club’s youth players, the club has confirmed the sale of four players permanently. Lewis Bate has joined Leeds United for a fee of £1.5 million with add-ons. It is also said that Chelsea has a sell-on percentage, which means the club will get a certain percentage of the fee paid to Leeds United if they sell him in the future. Another departure confirmed this week was that of Dynel Simeu who will join Southampton for free. But the Blues can still earn up to £1.5 million if the Premier League appearance add ons are all met. Plus the club also has a sell-on fee included which will help the club financially in the future.

Myles Peart-Harris has gone on to join the newly-promoted Premier League side Brentford FC for an undisclosed fee. Even though the fee is undisclosed, we can expect a similar amount of fees and future clauses in the deal. Another youngster who will leave the club permanently is Ike Ugbo who has agreed personal terms with Genk. The fee can be expected to be around the £5 million mark if not more. All of these departures have frustrated the fans very much because three of these four players were the best players last season for the Under-23 side.

These players have refused to sign new contracts with the club thinking that they will not get the chance to play for the club. So instead of just letting them leave for free the next season, the club has decided selling them right now as getting some money for them would be a much better option.

Some fans say that the club should just integrate these players to the first team but this situation is not possible due to the bloated squad of Chelsea. When you have players like Danny Drinkwater, Abdul Baba Rahman, Lewis Baker, and many more who have not played for the club for years now and are still in the clubs’ books, then this becomes one of the main reasons why the blues cannot promote youth players to the first team. And in the coming few days Valentino Livramento is also expected to leave the club with Brighton & Hove Albion interested in his signature.
