3. If preseason performance is an indication, Chelsea is going to rock this season

Listen, preseason is first and foremost a physical exercise. It’s about greasing the gears and getting everyone up to speed physically and technically before the season starts. That being said, you’d obviously rather be winning matches in preseason than not.

Chelsea hasn’t just played well this preseason. They’ve played amazingly. The Blues have already looked as though they are in mid or even late season form compared to their opposition. This match against Spurs was ultimately a draw, but before the substitutes began, it was truly men against boys.

If that continues into the season proper, the rough start Chelsea has will be a cake walk. And with a start like that, going ahead in the league early and then having an easy run is going to be an extremely useful situation for the Blues.

Mind, this is also before any signings have come in. Should Kounde and Lukaku join as mostly expected, the club will only improve.

Perhaps the best indication of where Chelsea is overall will be the Super Cup given it is, on paper, a competitive match. If the Blues go out and blow Villareal away, Crystal Palace on MD1 should be the least of their worries.

And remember, this is also Tuchel’s first preseason with the club. He’s had time to implement things that he simply didn’t have time for last season. Chelsea won the Champions League last season without training time. If this preseason is a spring board, hold on for what might be something special.
