4. Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja face uncertain futures

If one were to ask Tuchel which players impressed him the most during the preseason, he would say the names of Chalobah and Broja. According to the latest developments, both these Chelsea youngsters face uncertain futures when it comes to playing for the first team. Chalobah, who has been with the Blues since the age of eight, reported back to Cobham on July 12 to work under Tuchel. Despite senior squad players reporting back for training, Chalobah remained with the first team group and featured in every preseason game.

The 22-year-old has been used as a centerback by the German coach and performances in defense against the likes of Bournemouth, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have caught the eye of the gaffer. It seems that the number of central defenders currently on the books at Chelsea is the main reason why Chalobah is being sent out on loan. First team minutes simply cannot be guaranteed, hence why the Blues are looking to loan him out to a club that is willing to play Chalobah as a centreback, rather than being used as a six.

Another youngster who has impressed is Broja, but after the news of the club signing Lukaku, it seems like the Albanian striker will be sent out on loan. Chelsea is said to be in advanced talks with Southampton for a season-long loan for the young No. 9. The 19-year-old was part of the makeshift first team group under Tuchel and was on the scoresheet in friendlies against Peterborough and Bournemouth. After the return of senior players like Kai Havertz and Timo Werner though, Broja was dropped out of the first team picture. As a result, Chelsea has decided that the next step for Broja for his development would be a loan move to a Premier League team. If the Albanian striker goes on to impress during his loan spell, expect him to be a part of the first team very soon.
