Chelsea has had a weak off since defeating Crystal Palace. In that time, Romelu Lukaku has joined the squad and most (bar Christian Pulisic with Covid-19) have returned from injury. Meanwhile, Arsenal will have spent the week thinking about the loss to Brentford and their multiple Covid cases. The trajectory of the two sides could not be more different at the moment. What XI might Thomas Tuchel field on matchday two to get one over the Gunners?

Edouard Mendy (No. 16) Goalkeeper, Senegal

Edouard Mendy was brilliant against Villareal in the Super Cup. He didn’t have to do against Crystal Palace in the opening fixture of the Premier League. However, he was alert whenever Palace intended to do something with the ball. Mendy will probably be more involved against Arsenal and expect him to make a couple of strong saves to ensure another clean sheet for the Blues.

Trevoh Chalobah (No.14) Centerback, England

If there’s one man that deserves to start this game, it’s Chalobah. The past month has been a dream come true for a player who dreamt of playing at Stamford Bridge since the age of eight. From making a stellar European debut in the Super Cup to his Man of the Match performance in his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace, Chalobah hasn’t put a foot wrong till now. He has gone out on loan, performed there, and waited for his chance at Chelsea. At 22, this is the right time for the club to award him for his magnificent performances and keep him for the season. While some fans are going crazy about the potential transfer of Jules Kounde, Chelsea could use the money elsewhere and allow Chalobah to flourish in the same position.

Andreas Christensen (No. 4) Centerback, Denmark

Andreas Christensen is quietly becoming one of Chelsea’s most important players on the pitch. He has looked comfortable on the ball and seems to be playing his best football in the middle of that three-man backline. Christensen’s role in the side will only increase this season as Chelsea will have to manage Thiago Silva’s game time carefully. Expect another commanding performance from Christensen, and who knows, maybe even a goal!

Antonio Rudiger (No. 2) Centerback, Germany

Antonio Rudiger is an absolute warrior of a defender. However, his perfect distribution and some of his deep runs from the left often go unnoticed. Moreover, Rudiger has a physical presence and the aerial ability to shield his goalkeeper. He has a habit of making some clutch tackles in the box and they are genuinely a work of art. Rudiger will ensure that he doesn’t go unnoticed against the Gunners as he looks to continue his fine form.
